Default Another major developer walks away from Windows Mobile, & Windows Phone 7

We've already seen Adobe pull the plug on WM 6.x (Flash won't be initially available in WP7). Skype pulled its WM app.

Now, Firefox mobile, aka Fennec, is also dead.

The simple lack of native code, has undone all the work on this project. There is little sense in continuing to work on an application for an abandoned OS.

I feel like I'm back to using Palm OS. Thanks for slapping me upside the head M$.
Current Device: Samsung Galaxy Note II - Rooted Stock ROM
Retired Device: HTC EVO Shift 4G - (Rooted) JellyBelly ROM 4.1.2
    Tablet: Kindle Fire

The school year is back in session - I'm likely to be absent from here quite a bit...

Heh. When I proclaimed WM was the new Palm last year, I had a slightly different meaning in mind. Should I have knocked on wood more, or just realized the implications of what I was saying?

I wasn't exactly looking forward to firefox mobile, but the symbolism struck me too when I saw the news. The stuff I was crossing my fingers for isn't going to hold out for WinPho Classic to be a hit.

I broke down last year and bought a smart-phone to replace my aging, but beloved TX. WebOS was out, however, I was not willing to switch to Sprint. I compared Blackberry and WinMo. devices (iPhone was not considered due to its limitations and cost at the time). I chose the WinMo. Device because, IMO, it had better PIM functionality and it was highly configurable.

Like many of you said above, M$ reminds me of Palm. We have an entire new OS coming that will not run any existing programs. Then, M$ tells me: "No Cut/Copy & Paste, No Multi-Tasking, No Memory Expansion, and Only Apps from our App Store". All of the reasons I went to WinMo. are gone. I can deal with not running legacy apps, but loosing the other features, no.

To the point of the thread: It looks like some developers are seeing this and saying "All this development work and time we spent writing apps for WinMo. and it is pretty much all out the window."

I use my device more as a mini PC than a phone. Again, as stated above it looks like M$ is catering to the lowest common denominator. The fact is that is how they are going to make a profit. It would be nice, however, if they would throw a bone to the few power users by giving us a professional mobile OS.

I am VERY glad I didn't jump on the TP2 or HD2. Yes, I know WinMo 6.5 will be very good for a long time to come and I'm still attached to the archaic Palm OS; but since I don't have a particular app I'm desperate to keep that only works on WinMo, it doesn't make much sense to go there. I can't see investing all that time and money to get a WM6.5 device to where I want it and have it be obsolete almost out of the box. If I'm starting all over, I want my OS to have a future.

Yeah, I'm pretty much regretting my TP2 when I see so many great apps out there on the iPhone for cheap and in abundance, while winmo apps are still rediculously expensive, almost comparable to desktop counterparts! I wish I would have waited at least for the Palm Pre Plus on AT&T, or even just gotten an android phone. It was the screen that got me, 800x480 and 3.5". But most videos don't even play well if I leave them at a good bitrate and resolution.
I wish someone would at least find a way to overclock it to 728 hz or mghz or whatever it would be, to help out a little.. But I'm sure that has been abandoned also.

you guys do realize that there are still tons of winmo apps out there...

and there are still alot of dev support..

sucks that skype is no longer develpoping for Winmo

but ther'es already a well working winmo version of skype that is around already.

I'll be damn if I have to go apple and be tied down their stupid app store.. just to get programs.

You don't. That's what Android is for.

Indeed, there is still some indie development on WinMo, but even a lot of those projects are winding down. Even developers who don't charge for their stuff want their programs to be used and loved, and a lot of those that make programs for their own use are looking to migrate to a living platform.
