Default Speed of Sandisk ultra II 2gb

I got got a sandisk utlra II 2gb CF card for my ipaq hx2415 and when I use pocket mechanic to bench mark it, I'm only getting 0.06MB/S write and 0.44MB/s read. What is going on? The card was advertised to have 10MB/s read and 9MB/s write. I did the same test on my viking 256 SD card and had faster results and that card wasn't even advertised as being a fast card. Data transfers to and from my destop's CF slot also seem slow. Can anyone explain this to me? Did I get ripped off? Thanks for your help.

It's certainly natural to benchmark/see totally different results in a PDA than in a decent digicam / in a desktop USB2 card reader. In a PDA, hi-speed cards can deliver MUCH worse speeds than non-fast cards. Check out e.g. http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/foru...ic.php?t=36674 , http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/foru...ic.php?t=36376 and http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/foru...ic.php?t=37361 on this.

To add to what Menneisyys said, the device doing the reading and writing makes a huge difference. The 10MB/s read and 9MB/s write that you read about are speeds that they got in best case scenarios with optimized equipment and card readers. You would never approach these speeds in current PDAs.

Programmed Input/Output (PIO) modes, version 2.1 of the CompactFlash specification enables the use of PIO modes 0-4. I'm unsure what PIO modes a pocket pc runs but Ultra II can run at the highest speed (PIO 4) and supports PIO 0 - 4. I'm quite certain that Pocket PCs do not support PIO mode 4. The only CF card that supports PIO mode 5 and 6 is the new Sandisk Extreme III. In order to run at these higher speeds the devices they are in need to support PIO mode 5 and 6.

The Ultra II is very fast CF memory and you will get better speeds on your ipaq than cheaper CF memory. More importantly you can transfer files to and from a CF card with reader at much higher speeds than cheap CF cards. I have 3 diifferent CF card readers and even speeds between these vary greatly.

    Here are card-to-computer speeds:

As you can see your Ultra II is rated 4th from top and at 11.11 MB/sec. As you can see this is twice as fast as some of the cheaper cards. This speed was attained with a Lexar FireWire CompactFlash reader, model RW019 which they think is fastest PIO 0-4 card reader.

    Hope this helps!

So that all makes sense to me now, but what i still can't figure out is that when I"m benchmarking a video file from my CF card, sometimes I"m able to reach 2.0MB/S. While pocket mechanic only gives me a benchmark of 0.44MB/S

Is that 0.44 MB/s Mbytes/s (I think that's the case, according to, for example, my real-world benchmarks) or Mbit/s? The movie MUST be the latter, while the benchmark results the former - not even traditional DVD's use 2 Mbytes/s encoding speeds.
