DivX Encoder for PocketPC
Hi ! I'm a french guy (BTW excuse-me for my mistakes in English) and I've developped a soft in order to encode any movie (AVI/DivX, MPG, VOB, OGM) to DivX with some parameters optimized for viewing the clip on a PocketPC (landscape mode, low CPU usage, increased brightness, ...). The soft is Freeware (under the GPL licence) and it is really faster than VirtualDub (6 times on my computer to reencode a DivX movie !!). The movies created can be viewed with the PocketPC player "PocketMVP" (it is DivX video with MP3 audio).
The soft is dedicated to beginers AND to advanced users :
- for beginers it has a simple interface, it needs no third party software or codec, ...
- for advanced users it provides a way to get rid of those parameters you have to set in VirtualDub and it allows a really FASTER compression.
This thread is not an advert for my soft : it is still in developpment, so I don't want it to be spread too much by now. But I've written in this forum in order to ask if some people could be interested in testing it... Some french people have already tested it, and it surely still contains some bugs, but since I had made an English version of the soft, I wanted to get English-speaking people involved if it was possible !
Note that the soft contains some code taken from some other GPL projects like "mencoder", so it will remain completely FREE. So if you want to test it, it can be downloaded from this site

I am gonna download it and try it. I also use a program called DVD to PocketPC. this is an excellent, easy to use prog that goes from a DVD to a WMV for Win Media 9 on PPC playing in 1 step.

Waow ! ... a lot of testers !! Thank you all for your interest in my soft !
To add a little thing, I think my soft is not as easy as "DVD to PocketPC" when it is used for rencoding DVDs, because I haven't included any ripper in it (since I don't know if it is legal in every country...). If you want to reencode a DVD, you can only reencode some vob files that are on your hard drive and that are not crypted !
However, it's really faster, it works not only with DVD (DivX, Xvid, MPEG, ...) and some tests show that the encoded videos and the player (PocketMVP) works great even on slower devices... That is why it could be usefull for users who don't have a brand new PPC too (I hope !)...
...By the way, if you can correct my english mistakes in the soft, it would be great !!
