What did the rip take? How long? I'm trying to get an understanding how long it will take from DVD to PPC. I've read here that it takes about 1hr 45min to convert the ripped file to an mpeg for your PPC.Originally posted by baralong
I've had good results with DVD Decrypter I made a good copy of Monsters Inc last night as a test run, all up the rip and convert took about 45 mins. I only have a 128Mb and 340Mb (microdrive) CF cards so I'm going with the default settings, the seem good enough for the time being. I might play with them over the weekend to see how it all goes.
Note: I own this DVD and I live in Australia, I think I'm OK leagly but it could very well be illegal elsewhere (and indeed here, I'm not completely sure)
Did the rip take 5min, 15min? If this was less than 2hrs for a 2hr movie, then yes it is fantastic! I've read that "DVD To PocketPC" takes about 5hrs from start to finish.eeePC 4g

A/V sync issues
I'm having mixed success with the A/V sync option, the first conversion was at a lower bitrate and filesize, when I ran the conversion it converted to OGG which ran fine on PMVP.
But I tried higher bitrate (approx 250 I think) which still gives some gradual sync issues on the first conversion to AVI. But the A/V sync to OGG really screws the sync up badly (20 seconds off or so I think)
So I think the A/V sync still needs some work at higher bitrates, it seems to work fine at a lower rate.
Thx.

I use Smart Ripper 2.4.1 and it takes about 15 minutes to rip a DVD.

First of all -- GREAT PROGRAM! I'm used to using a multi-step process involving SmartRipper, VFAPConv, VirtualDub, OggDropXP, and OGMux. This program cuts out several steps, and makes the whole process much faster. THANK YOU!
However, I have a few suggestions that would make this program perfect:
Separate video bitrate control from framerate. I like to encode 128kpbs @ 24fps.
Make framerate adjustable for NTSC-friendly rates (30fps, 24fps, 15fps, 12.5fps)
Separate audio depth, stereo/mono, and bitrate controls so they can be changed indepedently. I like using 22khz 48kbps stereo OGG, which is not possible with the current software.
Add ability to crop (not zoom) the source video. For 2.35:1 widescreen movies I want to not encode the black bars, but I don't want to loose image on the sides.
Add ability to choose which audio stream in a VOB to encode
Add ability to encode a video-only AVI so I can mux the audio in myself later.
Make image rotation optional.
Also, what exactly does the saturation control do? What setting should I use for brightness and saturation so that the original video is unchanged?
Again, thanks for the great work.

Hi !
skubersky, your suggestions have been taken into account, I'm working on them. The crop ability will be hard to implement (because it has to remain user-friendly !).... so I can't promise anything...
To know what are the original settings of a video file, read the previous posts !
I'm also planing to remove VirtualDub and Avisynth and to add the Ogg ability with mencoder... Thanks to that, there will be only mencoder in the soft and the ability to encode audio in Ogg or MP3... The Exe size will be smaller and OGM creation will be faster !

Wildelnab, I just registered here to say thank-you for the great program.
I've not converted many files yet, but my first few test files seem good.
I've got a few suggestions.
Someone suggested having separate options for the video bitrate and framerate adjustments. Could you also implement a "+" "-" indicator to show what those settings are in relation to the original file?
Also, you could have a menu option to switch between a "basic" and "advanced" modes to hide options such as the separate bitrate and framerate options.
You could also put a crop option in the "advanced" mode.

OK, I'm working on all these features... The crop option is the hardest to implement... The others are planned for the next release !

again, great program...
hey on pocketmvp, when i try to watch a movie, sometimes i get interrupted and have to continue watching the movie at a later time. obviously, i want to continue where i left off and not watch the part i have already watched.
i know with the new pocketmvp, there is an option to remember last file and position, but this does not work real well for me...i have it checked, but the movie always seems to start over and not continue from the last position. i even stop the file and close out the pocketmvp.
any suggestions and how to get this done?

Whenever i encode into avi using mencoder, the playback on my pocketmvp gives greenish distorted blocks, but sound is ok.
If i use virtualdubmod to encode into ogm, it plays back absolutely fine. Anybody has this same problem. I would prefer to encode into divx avi cuz it's much faster.
