Renaming device id/partnership name?
How can I rename the device id/partnership name?
After some recent tinkering around, I had to re-establish a new partnership with ActiveSync. But it wouldn't let me use my old partnership name. It kept reporting that the name was used already.
I deleted all partnerships in ActiveSync and scanned my WinXP registry as well as the PPC registry and removed any suitable references to the partnership name.
However when I try to sync, it still reports that the name is used. So I had to leave my new partnership name intact.
I know this is not a major problem... but I would like to know if there is a quick way to rename the partnership?Palm IIIxe > Palm Vx > Toshiba e310 > HP 2210 > Treo 600 GSM

delete the folder called "partnership name" (or whatever you used
) from c:\documents and settings\"windows user name"\application data\microsoft\active sync\profiles\
also, on the ppc you can pick a new sync name in start>settings>system tab>about>device ID tab.
Did that answer your question, or did I misinterpret it? :P

Re: Renaming device id/partnership name?
Simply delete your partnership in AS when out of the cradle. Then look at the DEVICE NAME on your PPC. You can keep the same name or rename or rename your device. Either way, it should now begin the partnership proceedure.Originally posted by klam

He did what you suggested. I've had before where my ActiveSync has _no_ partnerships (so it says Guest), but I can't create a partnership using my normal device name. This is when I went searching and found that folder in application data\microsoft\active sync\profiles.
Your way is perfect for the normal deletion of a partnership, but sometimes you gotta do a little manual tinkering to make it work.

I've had this happen to me, too. As long as that folder exists, ActiveSync thinks the partnership is still there.Originally posted by arebelspy

Thanks.
I did delete the partnership in ActiveSync, registry, and changed the name in the PocketPC control panel. But the program kept recognizing my old partnership name.
I will try looking for that directory. Never noticed it.Palm IIIxe > Palm Vx > Toshiba e310 > HP 2210 > Treo 600 GSM

This has happened to me too.
I deleted partnership, sync folder, even went into the registry searched on the partnership name in case there was some stuck registry key somewhere. Once I was convinced there was nothing on the PC that had the partnership name ( or at least anything that I could hunt and search for ), I still couldn't use the old name. Had to switch to a new one. No big deal - backed up everything to CF first, and then changed the name on the PPC and created a new partnership. Too bad, I really liked the first partnership name I had.....
Everything has been fine since the change...
Good luck! -David
