Sending Email Through POP Server
I have access to an external wireless AP from work. What I'd like to do is send email through my ISPs server, but NOT receive any email. I can't seem to get this set up. Is it possible? I get an error saying the incoming server can't be reached (I put a dummy name in for it). It never gets to the point of trying to send out the email.

isn't pop3 usually the income server and smtp the outgoing server. With my provider these are to differnet servers!
And I have to log on at the pop3 first to send mail via smtp.

Yes, the POP3 and SMTP are different servers. I don't want to pull down the email off the server, though, so I tried putting in a dummy name for the POP3 server and put in the SMTP server info. It looks like PocketPC wants to log into POP3 first (which I don't want). Is there any way to just connect to the SMTP server?

I don't think there is a way to avoid conecting to the pop3 server.
With my mail service the problem is more that for connection to smtp you have to logon at pop3 first, maybe thats your proplem.
Just tell your outlook it should download mails from the last 0 days. Maybe he connects but does not pull new messages?

nPOP is a freeware POP3/SMTP client, for PPC or PC. It's dead simple to use, and in Options you can very simply uncheck the 'Autocheck' box. Then you need only avoid ever tapping the 'check for new mail' icon on the toolbar, tap the 'send' icon within any new email you want sent, and forget about the receiving part. nPOP only checks for new mail if you tell it to, either manually every time or on a schedule, if you like. I have it check every 3 minutes, which it does flawlessly. Lots of other options.
Oh, and the name you give to the account you set up is the name send in the header of all emails, so I used my fill name in initially setting up my account. If you use some obscure name, like your servername, it could be very confusing for recipients.Gerard Ivan Samija

nPOP looks like it'd do the trick, but I don't want to load on any more software if I don't have to. I finally got it to connect to send the message. I had to check Outgoing e-mail server requires authentication and set up the POP3 server. Setting the days to 0 didn't prevent it from downloading messages. However, in doing some more research, this limits the emails that will hand around in the inbox. I also set it to only download the headers, so the messages stay on the server and are retrievable from home. I think I can live with this, and on the road this will be more convenient than using the web reader. For local use I just wanted to set up so that I could send messages when I had wireless connectivity, but not AutoSyncing.
Thanks for all the suggestions,
David
