Installing program questions for newbie please help

i have never used a pocket pc before. I am currently downloading icq for pocket pc from www.icq.com and it says i have to intall it when it is connected to the cradle and into my computer?

does all software have to be installed using my computer?

why can't it just install it on its own after the .exe file is transfered onto a memory card?

i thought it was an independent operating system? are only some programs like this? or anything that requires a internet connection?

on the specific program and programmer. Most .exe packages are run from your desktop while your PPC is docked in an ActiveSync session. The installer program installs the new program on your PPC and possibly a desktop copy. Some programmers allow you to simply copy a .cab file from your desktop to either main memory or a storage card. In that case, you simply tap the .cab file and the program is installed. In both cases, its simply up to the programmer on how he/she handles the installation.

With that said, most but not all, programs also allow you to install them to a CF/SD memory card. When prompted to install the program in the default place, answer no. A menu selection will, or should, appear giving you an option to install to either main memory or to a storage card via a small pull-down menu. Again, its simply up to the programmer on how he/she handles the installation and where the program can run from...
