Hi everyone... I'm stumped.
I own a casio EM-500 and i was browsing through the registry... among other things i found some interesting riddles.
riddle 1 :
"HKCU\control panel\Desktop"
contains an item labeled "wallpaper"
the data in this key is "\windows\default.2bp"
so... Question #1 what the heck is a *.2bp file and what wallpaper is this that the key is refering to? can it be changed? would the display be affected?
Riddle 2 :
"HKCU\Software\microsoft\Internet Explorer\main" has loads of D-Word Values.
one of wich is called "ImageCacheBytes"
so... Question #2 why is this d-word looking like a little red button that I MUST PUSH AT ALL COST?!?! What hapens if i increase the cache size ?
If anyone wants to experement then please relpy...
I messed with the ImageCacheBytes and am going to see if my Casio blows up.

A .2bp file is a type of bitmap, as far as I know. With a decent file explorer you should be able to track this one down in \Windows.
As for that cache size (or is it 4 of them? as I seem to recall looking there once and finding this same value in 4 separate folders) I played around with it once, but saw no effect. I routinely download files over 6Mb onto my Casio, and it would really be nice if I could grab a bit of extra speed so that the device was usable for other browsing while a download went on in another window. But it all grinds to a virtual halt...

Riddle #1 is probably a leftover from ce 2 which had a windows 95-type desktop with wallpaper (might still be included in the new HPC's)
Have you found the secret vibrate switch yet?

Hey, Hitachi's 'Magic Wand' was the best vibrator 30 years ago, and it hasn't slipped far in the polls over on the Buzz forum. I doubt even the mighty iPAQ with the most energetic of sleeves could take on such established royalty as that.
Anyone tried deleting the vibrate key? What happened, less fun?

ok, here's why I ask about the *.2bp file...
and let's not kick this into another vibrator thread, or for that matter any other kind of achm..."device" thread.
the screenshot fot the new toshiba PPC seems to be engaging in a little desktop customization. see link.

What the hell?!? can I change the .2bp file and make my PPC Menus all pretty? maybe this is just some wacky OEM for Toshiba. but my PPC has a good prtty screen and Dashboard only skins Dashboard... and Pocket Blinds scares me and my PPC so wants to be pretty and loved and...and...BOOM!!!!!!!
(Unregistered user's head just exploded...please honor his memory by replying to this post and trying to answer his question.)

Well heck, if a wee little regtweak could do that, I'll jump. I'll not explode over it though; I'm off the caffiene at the moment. Let's hope some sage from the underworld of registry hacks can enlighten us.
But if it involves overwriting files in ROM, good luck. My Casio is rather stubborn about that.

It actually may be possible to skin the Programs menu. Here's what I discovered:
(First of all, I have a thing I call File Browser in Programs. It's a shortcut to "\" that I named File Browser, where if you put it in Programs, it opens "\" in the Programs menu. It makes opening files quicker than using a full program.)
I opened File Brwoser and opened an html file a while ago. The first thing I noticed was that it should have loaded in Pocket IE, but it opened a stripped down version of Pocket IE instead. It showed the website, but didn't have PIE's menus, and it said the file name in the title bar, not "Pocket Internet Explorer". I went back to Programs (which now, by the way, was in list view!), and I realized that that stripped down PIE was actually the Programs menu. That means Programs is actually an HTML viewer, and the white background is probably an HTML file, which may be able to be replaced.

Then how do we find or edit... that HTML file... if infact that's what it is.
