Ok, the newest ROM for the iPaq fixes this supposed issue. My question is now how do I make the alarm as loud as possible like it once was, without having my menu clicks and such being that loud?

    Unhappy

This was one "fix" I wished Compaq hadn't made. I've
noticed that I'ved missed more alarms lately. The original "bug" was a well intentioned feature that just happened to not please everyone. What they should have done was added a second "alarm volume" setting. Then everyone would have been happy. So for now, I turned off all system sounds except for alarms. I just have to remember to lower the volume before putting on that headphone.

    Default No brainer overlooked here

    Yeah . . . there's not currently a way to do this.

I really wish MS had incorporated the standard Palm approach of having three different sound volume classifications: System events, Alarm events and Game events.

. . . *sigh* . . . Palm was doing this before and through the previous two versions of WinCE, too bad they missed this one.

This has been a peeve of mine since version 1.69 ROM was released. I used to be able to reliably use my iPAQ as an alarm clock, etc. Now, if I don't have the volume cranked-up, it's useless.

Before someone jumps on me about how loud and annoying the alarms were under ROM 1.28, at least there was a solution: you could record or modify, a low-volume (low modulation) WAV, and use that as your alarm sound. Presto, instant lower alarm volume.

Unfortunately, there's little we can do to *increase* volume using this technique (without increasing the global system volume). Anyway, I agree that this is one thing Compaq shouldn't have "fixed." In fact, they could have added a few small low-volume WAVs in ROM, such Low1, Low2, etc., which would have allowed those who felt the alarm to be too loud an option to use a low-volume WAV. Again, I don't like this "fix" one bit.

I have not upgraded yet, but this was one thing that I wanted fixed. I don't use the alarms at work because they were too loud (I just set my Paq to one beep which wasn't too loud), But I never thought about the fact that if you like the loud alarms you can't really have that now. A dual setting would be nice.

    Relavent tangent:

When I use the "mute" functions on either Today, or in Dashboard, often when I "unmute" it doesn't work.... i have to go back to the sound control panel and check all the boxes again.

    Any ideas?
    The iCuz i700 Repair Guide:

-- 1) You need to turn the phone off before you remove any programs!
-- 2) The "Lock" for buttons is well hidden in the "Power" control panel.
-- 3) To automatically log into Verizon voicemail... enter *86pp#XXXX# (where XXXX is your password) under the Tools, Options menu of the phone. (Add extra p if two pauses is not enough.)
-- 4) So far, EBcases, TuffasNutz, Rhinoskin, Verizon, and Vaja all make cases for the i700.
-- 5) Still no word on whether the Targus IR keyboard supports the i700.

    ... more to come!

I think that problem occurs when you mute from the today page, then unmute from another application such as Windows Media Player. For some reason it only unmutes the music and it doesn't unmute the rest of the sounds.

    To continue the tangent,
I wish there was a "mute for <time>" setting. That way, I can mute it during the meeting and have the alarm automatically turn back on. In fact, it should be integrated into the appointment setting. How about this scenario: The alarm goes off 5 minutes before a 1 hour meeting. You dismiss it, and that act also mutes the pocket pc for 1 hour. Near the end of the hour, the alarm goes off 5 minutes before the next meeting. You wrap up the current meeting saying you have to go to another meeting. In truth, its time to go read Brighthand.
