    Cool

I made a new floating-point benchmark and would like to compile results from many PDAs. Its so creativly named FPBench, and was made with eMbedded Visual Basic. Anyway, you will need VB Runtimes to use it. If you dont have them, you can download it with them (1.11 MB). If you have VB Runtimes, you can download it without them (124K). It works for ARM, MIPS, and SH3, although I've only tested it on my iPaq 3635 and the emulator so far.

    DOWNLOAD LINKS:
    With VB runtimes:
    http://home.kc.rr.com/brainstorm/FPBench_ALL.zip

    No runtimes:
    http://home.kc.rr.com/brainstorm/FPBench_NOVB_ALL.zip

Once you download, extract the zip to a folder, run setup, then, once its installed, go to your programs on your device and you should see FPBench listed.

Please try it out and post your results along with your machine model, ROM (if applicable) OS version, and CPU. (The scores have decimals in them... just round 'em off. It doesn't round them itself yet.) Thanks a ton!

    Oh, and any comments/flames/insults/ideas appriciated!

    My results:
    iPaq 3635, 1.77 ROM, Windows for PocketPCs 3.0 SP1, Intel StrongARM 206MHz, FPBench 9.0c:
    FP Marks: 15766
    Ops. Per Second: 1051

Just for fun, my computer running it on the emulator..
Home-built PC, Win2K with PocketPC emulator, AMD Athlon "Thunderbird" 1GHz, FPBench 9.0c:
    FPMarks: 1340347
    Ops. Per Second: 89357

Here is a screenshot on my computer via the emulator:

Ok, I just uploaded a new version that doesn't show the answers as it calculates and the scores went up over 10 times on my iPaq! Jeez...

Please re-download via the links and re-run if you would be so kind. Thanks so much!

(Version is now 9.0c, was 9.0a)

    Here's a question:
Why is the Casiopeia winning? hehe

    Default EG-800

A somewhat cranky one at that:
    FP Marks: 16811.75
    Ops. Per Second: 1120.78333
By the way, very cool of you to provide it sans runtimes. Most eVB authors dump those huge downloads on us, to no purpose at all. Thanks.
    ................................
A bit later, after a reset:
    FP Marks: 17793
    OPS: 1186.2
Guess it depends on how distracted the system is at the moment.

I made a simmilar thing in NS Basic, but its a bit faster. I think its more accurate, too... hmm. But I doubt anyone has the NS Basic runtimes, and I dont know how to compile an .EXE in it anyway. heh

Does the benchmark use casting or is it a measure of true (real, raw) FPU performance?

Just reset my Casio E-125 to run this benchmark.
I shut down WISBar and all other programs.

Note that my E-125 is overclocked to 200MHz.

    Here are the results:
    Div: 28058
    Mult: 28534
    Add: 14640
    SqRt: 18610

    FP Marks: 22385.5
    Ops. Per Second: 1492.36666

I was pretty impressed with my scores compared to those posted earlier
