Palm Envelope Creator
Saw a new app on PalmGear today - Palm Envelope Creator. It's a Palm Desktop add-in that allows you to print envelopes directly from the PD - No "sending" or exporting or other third-party software (e.g. MS Word) required. I've been playing with it and it seems to work pretty well for me w/ PD v4.1.4. Just a few quick clicks after selecting a contact and the envelope is printed.
There are a few limitations, though:
- Only one contact can be selected at a time; No mass printing for those holiday greeting cards. But it's so fast and easy that this isn't really much of an issue for me.
- I haven't found a way to print anything other than the "first" address, which is the "Home" address, if there are multiple addresses for a single person / business. If you only have one address for a contact and the other is empty, such as a "Work" address and no "Home" address, that is what will be printed. But if you have multiple addresses for a given contact, only the first one is printed.
Otherwise, it's still a handy little app to spit out envelopes directly from the PD, and worth the meager $7 price as far as I can tell.
I'll drop a note to the developer inquiring about the limitations mentioned above.
Just FYI...

Tacky me: Replying to my own post

I sent an email to the developer and had a reply within 12 hours. He basically thanked me for my input and said that my suggestions would be looked at for product development / enhancement. Maybe they will, maybe they won't, but I figure he must be somewhat interested in further developing the app since he replied so quickly.
For now, printing envelopes directly from the PD is still greatly improved with PEC.

An update has been released (v2.0.57.6 - Same link as above) that incorporates the ability to print either the "Home" or "Work" address, and also does printing of multiple selections.
After initially installing the updated version I was a little confused, as the "About" info still shows the previous version and the "Home" vs "Work" selection wasn't obvious. A note to the developer got another response within a few hours. The field options for envelope settings has been increased, per page 9 of the manual (RTFM, yeah?!?) to specify which address is used for a defined envelope type. Not the most intuitive, but perfectly functional. Selecting multiple contacts is also functional - It basically steps you through each one to be printed and queues them individually for printing to the designated printer.
At any rate, a couple of enhancements for your holiday envelope printing directly from PD...

Re: Palm Envelope Creator
I just came upon this thread as I am looking for just such a software, but save your time as the site that is noted here exists but does NOT work very well. It loads painfully slow (I have a very fast Cable modem), the search engine does NOT function at all, so you cannot search a title, and the software noted here doesn't seem to exist.
I have a problem buying any software from a company whose own web site cannot properly function with the most basic procedures of load & search.
I sent an email to them...let's see if/how they respond to the inquiry and the criticism.

PalmGear has merged with PocketGear so they don't really have a site anymore.

Re: Palm Envelope Creator
@royce: PalmGear has been rolled into PocketGear, and the selection of software for the Palm OS is greatly diminished. IME, PalmGear was never great at responding to queries, I've heard PocketGear is worse..
I ran a Google search for the product, though, and found the developers website:
http://www.quartztechnologies.com/en...tor/index.html
unfortunately, it doesn't seem to include a download, or any way to register/buy the product. There is a manual for its use, possibly that info is there.

Re: Palm Envelope Creator
Hmmm... One of my oldies resurrected

The Quartz Technologies site was never set up for downloading or registering PEC - That was handled through PalmGear. And, as we all know, PG is no more. Still a nice app and works great for me. But as in the other threads about sources for Palm apps drying up, this is likely just another casualty. Frankly, if I were a developer, I'd have dropped Palm OS (or Palm Desktop) app development long ago... There is, sadly, simply no future in it.

Somedays it's not even worth chewing through the restraints...
I should only have to LET the technology work for me. If I have to MAKE the technology work for me, it's not a tool - It's a boat anchor. And I've got better things to do than manage boat anchors, especially if I don't have a boat.

Re: Palm Envelope Creator
Nope!
Well, I did find a current and updated version of the Palm envelope creator, but I can't figure out how to buy it! Talk about beng inept!
I sent an email to them and got a reply, but when I successfully registered and chose to buy the product, it just kept sending me right back to my Personal Info Page.
I have sent an email to them telling them that I do want to buy their software, which is shown as updated as of Jan 2008, but they will have to contact ME because I am, apparently, too stupid to figure out how to buy it online from them.
It is a shame. Perfectly good software that cannot be purchased because of perfectly imperfect humans trying to manage a business so poorly.
I really do want this software, though. Printing an envelope through MS Word is just too horrific and restrictive.

Ok, I went over and took a look. You can export names and addresses from Palm Desktop (PDT) and use Mail Merge with Word to print out envelopes. I would much rather use Word to print envelopes than any software that would only work with PDT. This is because Palm isn't my only repository of names and addresses. I have quite a few of them scattered around in various formats ranging from Excel (xls and csv) to Access (mdb) to Palm.-Jeff
