    Post Cheap/free apps/games

Hi,here is my list of favourite free/cheap apps games. If there is no price mentioned they are free and since I have a TungstenE I can only speak for that model.Ok here are my favorite apps.

"CardLauncher" It is what it is
If you are after a launcher with lots of frilly bits then this is not for you. It simply puts your data on the card leaving the icon on the Palm with a * and there is no icon on the card.It is not faster than light but is fast enough for me.The price is us$4 or $5 but when I tried to buy from TopSoft I could not use my Mastercard that was issued in Australia but Palmgear was fine. The authors are very quick and helpful in responding to emails and after paying I received my Reg code the next day by email. It has a 7 day trial and if you go over the trial period and decide not to buy you can still transfer your data from the card back to the Palm Ram.The real beauty of this one for me is that it works with what I think is the best app out there free or otherwise (it is free) Screenbutton (see below) Together they allow me to have a perfect Palm.

    "ScreenButton" Cute as a .....
I can't stop singing the praises of this app and the latest version has just got better. It is now essentially 2 apps meaning you can, like me, devote 2 hard buttons to it,one for work and one for play.It takes some time to configure but I sat down with pencil, paper, eraser (old school Palm notepad) and planned out exactly how I wanted it to look, after that it was quite simple to set up.I love this app because it's fast and the screen looks how I want it to (not just A>Z). After all my Palm is a Personal Digital Assistant the key word being PERSONAL. Handy hint: as most games use the hard buttons you can't leave by pressing a hard button so I have devoted my Star (favorite) button to Screenbutton allowing me to go straight there.

    "5NLaunch" Smart!
Like Screenbuttons but has a tree setup which can be used with the 5way navigator or tap (I prefer Screenbuttons icons) It can launch from the card but through the Palm launcher and many freeware apps/games don't like to do this.

    "Switch5" It's a ....... Hit
This one does NOT have an icon! It sits at the bottom of your prefs in other.A simple swipe on the silkscreen will take you back to previous app or bring up a list of recently used apps. You can even add favorites to that list so they are always handy. It also allows you to ignore apps and launcher.Unfortunately I can't switch to previous if it was launched by CardLauncher but the list view is ok.Some games will not allow it to work from them.

    "Today" Soooo Now
    Launch it and you get:
    Palm info:
memory space left + battery level.
    Time and Date:
plus a tap will launch another app.
    Owner:
put in your name and phone/email. Hopefuly someone finding your palm will push the buttons and this will come up plus a tap takes you to prefs, owner.
    Calender:
tells you if anything is due plus a tap takes you to any app you choose.
    Tasks:
tells you due tasks plus a tap takes you to any app you choose.
    Versamail:
    Email download.
Plus 5 launchers at the bottom, you decide what apps are launched.

    "Snapcalc5" Snap,crackle,Popup
Yipee,a free popup calc.Works beautifully so far. What can I say,why not have it?

    "Handyshopper" Handy!
I use it every day and not just for shopping. It's a good replacement for the stupid Palm Expense. You will find countless uses for this one. Handyshopper can export/import to/from memopad although not the date.

    "BigClock" Size does matter!
Possibly the most popular app ever. BIG numbers plus alarms, world time and timers.Lets you have the time plus the alarm time on the screen together in big easy to read numbers, your choice of colour and layout.

"WatchM" Not just a pretty face
If you prefer dial clocks to digital this is beautiful with different faces and your choice of colours. It also has the fantastic Rocket alarm so just tap on the point of the clock and the alarm is set,up to one hour, a combination alarm/timer really. The smart authors also allow it to share a hard button with another app

    "Currency" The right price!
Simple and effective currency converter, input via graffitti or it's calc keyboard. You can edit the rates or even download from a website. Wish the calc buttons were bigger or my thumbs were thinner for one handed use.

    "Converter" Need a change?
Converts everything to anything even shoe size from Usa to Uk etc.

    "HandyFinance Lite" EZ2C
You may have Pdamoney on your Palm but the beauty of this app is you get o see all your transactions listed on one page with current balance which Pdamoney does not(why NOT?). HandyFinance has filters, account balances etc.If you have regular fees or whatever you can just copy a previous and change the date. The Lite(free)version has a few constrictions.

    "MobileDB" Portable!
Just a place to keep all sorts of databases supplied by very generous authors or make your own.If you have a lot of info it can be transfered to the card while the title stays on the Palm.

    "Colorize" Colorful!
Go on make your Palm as pretty as you like.Export to Memopad then try something else you can always import back again later or just go for Palm colors, more fun than some games. One rainy day I tried to make my Palm as ugly as possible.I guess I succeeded, not sure,as I can't bear to look at it .

    "Fileprog" The power!
Lists all apps on Palm and card plus all those fiddly bits that come with them.Let's me feel tech minded.

    "StabilityTest" Exciting!
A crashtest dummy for your Palm.
Backup first then run this and it tells you if any apps are unstable.I always get an ok so I really don't know if it works.I only use it after I have hotsynced and installed new apps. Has a good warning system.

    "PalmPuke" Calling card
Simple app that makes a noise when your card comes out so hopefuly you won't lose it.

    "PsMemo" Friendlier
Handy if you are going to do a lot of graffiti writing. It's main benefit is you get the editing tools (copy,paste,undo,date/time stamp, search etc) on a toolbar at the bottom of the screen plus I like the enable finger scroll for finding stuff quicker..

    Other Stuff

    "TCB" To count beans
If you want to count anything this has big buttons and editable titles.

    "Tik Tok" Timely.
Lots of timers with editable titles.

    "Wordz" Spellbound
If you like doing crosswords then this is a good helper.Write in the letters you have leaving a space or number for the letters missing and this neat app will give you a list of possibles. No cheating now. The Big data base can be transfered to the card.

    "fDic" Gomez that's French
It is like Wordz but has Francais, Espanol, Italiano and British. You don't get them all at the first download but they are at the website <www.braun.daniel.free.fr>.
    It's NOT a translator.

    "NoahLite" Dictionary
Seems good enough. It is 2062 k so that could be a deciding factor.

    "DigitalBuddahVacana"
Daily words on Buddism.Up to you, I don't preach.

    "EasyIching"
The I Ching on your Palm

    "Palmbio"
Daily biorythms,if you believe in that sort of thing.
Ok enough of the serious stuff, lets have some fun and Games.

    Arcade Games

    NOTE
Bee,Budginped,Igzo,Troom2,Sp,Kljet and Muppy (all by the same author) are no longer freeware but are cheap at about us$5 for8 games different packages are available. I love all of this authors games.

"Bee" What's the buzz?Have a flutter on this one, you'll get the rhythm after a while. I always want to try one more time, love it.

"BudginPed" The budgie bird gets around and hangs around bombing monsters and freeing hearts from cages by,wait for it,doing poos. How silly is that?Silly enough to be fun.

"Dlgate" Run around and blow things up,not as violent as it sounds.

"Igzo" Get the dolphin to jump through hoops.Hard to control at first but addictive.

"Kljet" Jet up over the boulders, ride the fireballs, shoot things collect the points. What's so hard about that?

Muppy" Bouncy, bouncy. The mouse is in the house and out to steal everything but the cats are on patrol.Silly fun.

    "Poc98" Spaceship shooter.You shoot them,they shoot you.You can't get fairer than that.

"Sp" Climb around caves and get points or get lost.

"Troom2" I still haven't worked this one out but I just can't stop trying. I have been stuck at level 12 for 2 months but I was stuck at level 6 for 4 months and finally succeeded.Yeah.

"Ywiqer" Change the path and lead the 'damsels in distress' to safety,I think.I don't really understand it but it holds a strange fascination.

"Ace" Battle the enemy plane. I always lose. Free @ Astraware

"Astro" Shoot meteors before they crash into you.Free @ Astraware

"Bang!" Shoot ducks and bottles in your backyard.Free @ Astraware

"Caverun" Navigate the ribbon through a cave, very popular and addictive. Can be frustrating at first.I wonder if there is enough room to swing his cat? You'll get the joke.

"Eggs" Break eggs and knockout scorpions with an axe but don't get caught. It's ok.

"Falling" Be quick and choose the right way, there is no reprieve in this simple but fun game.

"Flysnake" Another version of the classic, looks goods, works well.

"Juggler" A big 400k so not for you if space is a problem.Simply(ha) tap thefalling balls or bombs to clear the screen.Don't let any touch bottom.

"Kanga.ru" <www.softava.com> Catch the falling coconuts in the kangaroo's pouch (who thinks of this) Cute animation when a coconut falls on his head or foot.It is a demo and you must put in the words that appear to play.Handy hint: There are only two sets of words so put them in shortcuts,it's quicker.

"Pacdude100" Pacman clone, looks good and plays well.

"Prison" Wonderful breakout clone lots of levels, random level play.Real good looker.Turn off the background to save power.Very popular.

"Snowballer" Toss snowballs at naughty elves, splat, save Christmas.I thought elves were always nice, never naughty.Another childhood dream splattered. What's next the Evil Easter Bunny?Probably.

"Tetricrisis" Another Tetris but seems to work very well.

    Puzzle Games

"100Boxes" Try to fill all the boxes, an oldie but a goldie.

"4iarDeluxe" Connect 4 .Play against Palm or a friend.

"BBoop puzzle"A Betty Boop jigsaw type puzzle. I think it's shareware but it seems to have a long life.Very pretty but difficult.

"Clearup" Another one where tapping a square changes it's color and those next to it. This one has different levels and even can have random changes as you play so it can be very hard.

"Coinslide" Slide the coin (duh) around the maze eat all the peanuts?

"Donkeybricks" A big 390k but I like the style, get the pieces past the blocks and join them up

"Dynamate" A bit like Coinslide but not..Hey it's a puzzle it's supposed to be confusing.

"Eggyland" Takes a while to work out what all the things do but some of the puzzles are very clever.

"Exodus" One of my faves.Move around collecting things but watch out for the moving blocks.Very loud startup and no undo so fail and back to the start you go.Maddening fun.

"Hanoi" Move the rings across the 3 pegs till you get them to the other side.Levels from easy to all day.

"HeartsOS5" A huge 550k and a bit like Bejeweled in that you don't have to play it serious.Connect the colored hearts to try to clear the board.Very pretty to look at and sweet sound,So what's not to like? Great for relaxing and stress relief.

"HMaki" As above.Tap on the joined colored squares and they disappear. Works better than many I have tried.

"Marbles2" As above.Connect the colored blocks to remove and score points but the best features are you get to see the points value before you remove plus a 2 player option so when player 1 has finished player 2 gets the same opening board and tries to get more points. It also shows you the maximum points you could have got.

"Konane" Very old game. You must jump and last one to move wins.Good if you have only 5 minutes to spare

"Memorix" Memory card game and there are lots of skins as well.

"Mines Free" Minesweeper. The tap and drag is a bit tricky at first but not too bad.

"Mummymaze" Get out of the maze before the mummy gets you.The demo version only has easy level but this can be hard enough also the database of mazes is shuffled so you don't always get the same ones.

"Parkinglot" Get your car out of the crowded parking lot.Simply good!.

"Pegged" The old classic pegs but with a varied range of boards and peg colours. I'm stuck on some of them.

"Plumberpete" Connect the pipes before the water gets there. It's ok

"Rebus" Story puzzle, clues are given (John has cat,Jenny drives car etc) and you complete the table.

"Roundup" Moving colored balls around till they are all in matching squares. Free @ Astraware

"Sheep" Herd the sheep through the gate before you go insane.

"SuLite" The Japanese 9 game now becoming an international hit. It's one of those great bus/train to/from work puzzles.

"Tangrams" <www.smallware.com> Move the pieces to complete the shape.Looks easy but it's not.Lots of puzzle choices.Very well made.

"Taptile" Sliding puzzle but different sizes and skins also plays like Clearup.

"Timebomb" Connect the wires before the bomb explodes.Good luck.

"Vexed" Just my fave.So pretty and friendly with undo and place memory so you can try something and if it's not right just go back to where you were and it even shows you the solution(quickly).Sometimes the simplest solution is the right one, many times not.Beatles fans should check this out.

"Xray" Bend the ray around the board till it leaves through the exit hole. It's not rocket science but nearly

"Zhines" Very silly but pretty.Just rock, scissor, paper against the Palm but even if you win it still won't do the dishes.

    Card Games

"Cribbage" This Palm game is very well done but hey nothing beats playing with friends for real.If you don't know it give it a try, there are many crib fans around the word.

"Hearts" Same author as Cribbage and same great game play. You must be tricky to shoot the moon against this one.Black and white but much tougher than the MagicDogs version that came with the Palm that was so predictable I always won.

"Microfluxx" Even the author can't explain it.Just keep playing (it tells you what to do) until you understand. That may be a long time but the cards are great to look at and I actually won my first game but I don't know how or why.

"Patience Revisited" Lots of different types of patience/solitare.This is the only one I need except.......

"Pyramid Solitaire" More luck than skill but quick and easy. And.......

Railroad Solitaire" Has many names around the world. You move cards by suite not black/red.

"SpadeLoverSpades" Like cribbage there are Spades fans all around the world and like cribbage it's best with real cards and friends.But.....

    Dice Games

"Agushka Backgammon" Evaluation version but has a 30 day trial period with full features us?15 to buy .Some believe it cheats but I find it ok and if it does cheat it is bad at it as I am always close to even in games won and have backgammoned it 3 times so far.

"Dice121" Yahtzee clone to play against the palm it's good enough.

"Yahdice" You don't play against the Palm but if you want to play Yahtzee against another person without using dice or score pad then this is for you.

"Dieroll" Simply from 1>6 dice tap to shake tap to stop. Can be handy.

"Kilo" A version of Farkle slightly different but quite nice.

    Board Games

"Ackwire" Sorta Monopoly but not. Hard to explain just give it a go, very popular with some hardcore fans.

"Crosswords" Scrabble type game that's well done.Download the dictionaries from: <www.peak.org/~fixin/xwords/realdownload_en.html> Plus there is a browser called Dawgshow which I guess you need.Anyway there are packages at their website.

"Dopewars" Buy and sell drugs. It's um......What was I talking about?

"Domino!" Dominoes. You play against 3 Palm opponents.

"SeawarMP" Battleships clone. Great look and works well.

"Spacetrader" Buy and sell goods in space. So many people say it is great and it has almost endless possibilities.

"Spacewar" Think Battleships plus Spacetrader they and you move and fire.

All the best, woz of oz

Can this post make you go blind?

Seriously, very good job although I do prefer a tad bit of spacing between apps. Now I have to re-read through this and see if I will testing new software this week.

Sorry about the cramped conditions.I am not a computer person at all, they were the size of football fields when I went to school and calculators were banned in the classroom (I kid you not).So I created this on my Palm (always wanted to say that) and copy pasted to this site and it doesn't look the same.It actually took me 10 minutes to log in and find the forum and since I only use Cybercafes I did not spend a lot of time tweeking it. Anyway hope it is useful and at least gives you something new to look at / play with over the weekend. All the best, woz of oz
