Default Anyone use Dateman instead of Datebk5 or Agendus?

Curious if anyone has tried the latest 2.0 release of Dateman as an alternative to Datebk5 or Agendus? It is made by the people who make SuperNames, and I am looking for opinions.

    I auditioned Datebook 5, Agendus, and Dateman+Supernames.

I ended up with Agendus becuase it was integrated with the Palms own PIM databases (ie you get both home and work address in the proper place and it synchs with Outlook smoothly and without issues or extra conduit to manage.

To be honest I liked Datebook 5 a bit better than Agendus. But the lack integration with the native PIM database was a deal breaker - and wanted integrated PIM too. The moment Datebok 5 does a major revision I'll drop Agendus like a rock - Datebok 5 is just so full of features and adaptability. I like the visuals too.

Dateman came up last on my list. I wanted to like it, but frankly they need to jsut integrate it with Supernames and take it up a notch.

None of them were lousy - this was just my pick based on my needs.

You might like to check out this free DateBook utility - if you don't mind not having icons - this is an awesome application. Read the users comments for instructions about how to set up the program the best way.

Which version of DateBk5 did you try? I've been using v5.1a, S1, and it seems to integrate the standard Palm PIM databases for Date Book, ToDo, Memo, and Address Book. I just switch from one to the other in the split screen as needed. I keep the ToDo's integrated in the main Date Book window. To add or edit addresses (contacts) it will launch the standard Palm Address Book app, but I'm usually just looking something up for a quick phone number or to link to an event in the calendar, which it does well for my use.

I have to admit, I haven't tried much with Agendus, so maybe it has some additional functionality along those lines. But now that I'm all set up with DateBk5 and accustomed to it, I'll probably stick with it unless there's some compelling reason to jump ship. Besides, I've already greatly customized those nifty little icons for everything

    Just my observations...

One thing for example - take any person in your Outlook that has both a home and work address listed. If you look it up in Datebook 5, you can only see one of these. Stuff like that is just a no-go for me.

I'm sure that DB 5 will have a major update soon to take care fo stuff like this, especially with OS6 coming up very soon. In fact I think the developer did say that they would much more to improve the contacts side. I hope they do - it has a lot going for it otherwise.

But for the moment, I find it hard to really consider DB5 as integrated and baanced as Agendus, though.

This was one of the reasons that I chose Agendus also.

I have to agree with this also.

Now if I could just decide on the right outliner program!

Dateman is an excellent program. Calender in the the Palm is worthless.

I can see the whole month with icons on my calender or see all appts. for the week. There are 8 views to choose from.

I just updated to the new version. I sent Standalone some suggestions on their old version and they sent me the beta for their new release until it came out.

Well, I've been using Dateman 2.0 for a few days, and like what I see. There are some bugs, of which I emailed a list to Stand Alone inc., but it has been a few days and no reply :-(.

Specifically, editing a single ocurrance of a recurring appointment seems to delete that occcurance. Somtimes, when choosing a color on an appointment with 'background' colors checked in preferences, it just blanks out the item. The line is still there, but the text goes invisible.

In the List View, I like the filtering function, but it resets to All when leaving that view. It would also be good if I could filter multiple categories instead of one.

They have done a nice job of linking to contacts, memos, or other calendar an todo items.

I like a lot of what I see, and if a few issues can be resolved in the next release, I would probably buy.

    Indy,
I haven't had the problem of deleting a single occurance of a reoccuring event. I get a box that pops up and asks if I want to delete All, future or single event. Do you get the box?

Standalone has answered all my questions in a timely manner. Usually within a business day or two. Hopefully they'll get back to you soon.

The only bug I've seen was when I was in the 7 day view. The month at the top stayed the same even after I had forwarded into the next month.

In the beta version that I had, the calendar view had an option of shrinking the calender and when you tap on a date all information for that date showed below the calender not popping up a new screen. I got used to that function and it's not avalible in the new version.

    LMari, thanks for your reply.

Yes I see this on my Zire 71. Deleting and occurance works fine. Making changes to an occurance with out deleting is where I have issues.

Here is an example: I set a recurring appointment starting today and ocurring every Saturday thereafter. I then go to next Saturday 2/21 (the second appointment in the series) and make a change to the text. Then I answer the pop up dialog box to make the change to current record. The record then changes from 2/21 to today 2/14 with the text changes and also shows the original record on 2/14 as well. It should be making the text change to the record and leaving it on 2/21.

    Regards,

    Indy
