Unhappy trouble isync-ing my Palm T3 with Address Book, iCal

    Hi,

I just got a tungsten T3 and would like to synchronize it with Address Book and iCal. I think I did everythin as described by Apple and Palm, but I'm getting the following error message:

    Thursday, January 1, 2004 2:12 PM
    |myriam| Error synchronizing with the Palm handheld. The Palm device is configured to use Palm Desktop conduits which conflict with iSync.
If you are synchronizing contacts, the Palm Desktop conduit for Address Book must be disabled in the Palm HotSync Manager application before the device can be synchronized with iSync.
If you are synchronizing calendars, the Palm Desktop conduits for Date Book and To Do List must be disabled in the Palm HotSync Manager application before the device can be synchronized with iSync.
Can't synchronize contacts to myriam: device is not available
Can't synchronize calendars and To Do items to myriam: device is not available

I'm using: Mac OSX 10.3, isync 1.3, Palm Desktop 4.1

I disabled all conduits except for the isync conduit, except for the isync conduit, as asked for by the error message above, but it still doesn't work.

One more question: If I get it to work, will my contacts groups be reflected on the palm device?

Thanks so much for your help!!

Hello mattttze, welcome to Brighthand! I hope you enjoy our community here.

First, just double check that you actually have ToDo disabled by selecting it in the Hotsync Manager Conduit Settings window, click the Do Nothing button, and click Make Default, then click on Okay.

Many people (myself included) have overlooked the fact that ToDo needs to be disabled.

If that doesn't work try going to:

    /Library/Application Support/Palm Hotsync

And move all the conduits except for the iSync, Backup, and Install conduits from the Conduits Folder to a Conduits Disabled folder. If that folder doesn't already exist feel free to create it.

    Then try a hotsync.

If it doesn't work let us know what happens, as well as let us know what items are in each of those folders.

    Default It works!!!

    Thanks Shawn,

    it works now!

I disabled all conduits and hit DEFAULT. I think the DEFAULT was the part that I was missing and it kept on switching to the initial setting.

Thanks so much for your prompt advice. This is an extremely helpful forum, at least for me.

I think other threads taught me that I can't expect to get my address book groups transferred to the palm.
So the only way to group the transferred contacts is to manually do so in the palm.

If there's a way to outsmart this little shortcoming, please let me know.

    Default Similar problem

    Hi
I had a similar problem to this and for the most part this thread helped me. I find it unfortunate that Palm make no mention of habing to downlaod the iSync conduit from Apple.
Anyway I d'led it and upgraded to iSync 1.3 running on 10.3.1. When I went to do a HotSync it opened iSync and appeared to synchronise everything. Unfortunately it only seems to have copied my contacts and not my iCal entries. I am running iCal 1.5.1. I have iSync configured to synchronise all my Calendar entries.
FYI in Conduit Manager the only conduits that have been left enabled after installing the iSync Conduit are:
    Backup
    Install
    iSync Conduit
    Memo Pad
    Note Pad
    Photos
    Voice Memo
Also, the guy in the shop I bought this from told me the Palm was compatible with Apple Mail. Is this true?
    Thanks in advance.

    Sean

Hello phunkidude, welcome to Brighthand! I hope you enjoy our community here.

Have you double checked your iSync settings (in the iSync application) to make sure that your Calendar sync is set up properly?

Also as far as Mail.app goes, there are no built in Palm conduits to sync with it, but that doesn't make it incompatible, you just need to get a 3rd party conduit like Queuesync.

    Default isync

    Hey Shawn
In iSync, when I click on my Palm icon, it has 'Calendars' ticked and 'All' selected.
Note that I am using Palm Desktop 4.0 as Ihave read here that 4.1 is flaky.
    Thanks for your help.

Ah, I believe you need the hotsync manager from Palm Desktop 4.1 in order to be fully compatible with iSync.

    Default Still not working

I've put 4.1 on my mac and tried a sync via the cradle and bluetooth and it is still not copying any of my iCal data to the PDA.
Have also noticed that the following conduits are now installed:
    Address Conduit
    Apple
    Backup Conduit
    Datebook Conduit
    Install Conduit
    Memo Conduit
    Note Pad Conduit
    Photos Conduit
    ToDo Conduit
    Voice Memo Conduit
Should I disable any of these as per your message above?
    Cheers mate

    Hi phunkidude

To sync Mail app. with your palm you just need to download the Apple mail conduit 0.5.0 here...

    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9072

...then place the conduit file in the conduits folder, set your preferences using Hot Sync Manager, and Mail should sync with your Palm e-mail.

    Hope this helps

    Mike
