    Default Hotsync through Infrared

I am trying to hotsync a Palm Vx to the palm desktop version 4.1 using the infared port of the sony vaio Z505SL running Windows ME. The hotsync manager version is 4.1.0 and when I select the infrared port on it I get the Hotsync Manger message:
Error accessing the IR port. See the //Helpnotes//IR_Readme.txt for more information.
Infrared on the laptop is enable and working and the port detects the palm when the palm is enabled and has its infrared port directed to the laptop IR port. Both the palm and laptop are set to work at the same speed.
Any clue on how to fix this?

Thanks Jennifer, but unfortunately it didn't work for windows ME. The TAB "image transfer" does not exist under wireless link. There is only one TAB and it is "File Transfer" where you can select three options:
1: Display icon on the task bar ...
2: Allow others to send file to you ....
3: Display status while receiving files

I tryied different combilnations of it and it still didn't allow the Hotsync to access the IR port. I still get the same message.

    Any other clue?
    Thanks

Sorry - I missed the Windows ME part; we usually see this on Windows 2000. I found the following on Palm Boulevard:

    >>>
Win ME treats the IR port as a virtual serial COM port.
(check by right-clicking on My Computer, Properties, select Device Manager tab in System Properties window, then expand Ports.)

So in your HotSync Manager, just check "Local Serial" and uncheck "InfraRed". When you hit the HotSync button on your Palm, it should work.

    Hey Jennifer, it worked!
I unckecked Infrared in the Hotsync Manager and changed the port on the local serial from com1 to com4. Then it worked.
    Thanks a lot!

    Smile THANK YOU

Thank you. I was also having the same problem so I did a search on palm.com, which was useless. I went to Brighthand, did a search and found this post, and it solved my problem. Thank you so much!

I also found that to get it to work, the Palm had to be about 2" from the IR port on the laptop. My old laptop worked from about 5" away. I also set both to 9600 to start with, and went up one step at a time until I got both to 115,000, but it works at that now.

Thanks again. This site is a tremendous resource.
