Cannot sync handspring visor to win xp

I installed desktop 4.10 and couldn't get the USB connection to work. So I installed 6.x and the connection crashes every time. The palm says FATAL ERROR. Here are the logs (below). Should I uninstall 6.x and re-install 4.1 and just figure out how to get the USB to appear as COM3?

Try going to Pimlico software and downloading the file called PalmHotSyncSetup, linked at the very bottom of the page. I think that will allow you to use Palm desktop 6.2.x.

Desktop 4.1 should work just fine with XP. However, as long as you have 6.2.x setup see if it will work.

Otherwise, reinstall 4.1. Make sure AV and firewall are disabled during install, and that you complete installation and reboot compute before ever connecting the Handspring, even if invited to do so during install.

Also, make sure your windows user has full administrative rights, otherwise PalmDesktop won't install properly.
