installing City Select NA v6 on Vista or XP SP 2
I just had god help from Garmin Support in the US with installing City Select North America v6 on a laptop with Vista. The CS NA version came in a package with the USB 18 GPS but that has nothing to do with the installation problem.
When clicking on the setup.exe file of the Disk1, installation stopped and said , Please install from Installation CD. But that's what I'm trying to do.
The problem is with Windows installer which was changed after City Select came out. The problem is said to occur with XP SP2 and Vista.
Solution: Create a desktop shortcut for the setup.exe file on theinstallatio disk. right click on the shortcut. Go to the line target. There you'll find CD-drive\setup.exe
add a space and /zgarmin, looks like this setup.exe /zgarmin
This will make the installation run but only of the city Select software, not Mapsource or Nroute.
Then there was a message for a missing language dll file. This problem was solved by donloading the latest version of Mapsource. One could also circumvent it by rightcklicking on the mapsource desktop icon and access the file as administrator.Jonas
