Using Waypoints to create routes
Hi, this starts as an aviation question on the 3600a, but it may be applicable to the 3600 as well.
When I create a route I want to be able to pick waypoints (and the start and finish) from a list. The choice of lists is those offered by QueFind. But the "Waypoints" list contains all my address data and is therefore cumbersome. What I really want is a way of calling up a list of only aviation waypoints.
I can divide my Waypoint/Address list into Categories, but that doesn't help. It offers me all of them or nothing.
Is there a way of drilling down into a selection of the user Waypoints/Addresses? Or,
Is there a way of adding to the Aviation Points list? or
Is there a way of creating a new list in QueFind?
Interestingly Go To offers a subset of the QueFind list, but it still only offers all the Waypoints at once.
Basically an aviation waypoint list is something completely different to a ground address list, how do I separate them?

You might check out RVRoadie's program wayQue. It allows a lot more management of waypoints than the standard garmin software. I'm not familiar enough with all of its capabilities to know for sure if it will solve your problem but it's worth a look.

Well, it can, sort of.
If we assume that you group all your waypoints, that are useful for aviation purposes, in a separate aviation category, then WayQue will allow you to temporarily disable other waypoints, and enable the aviation waypoints, and then reverse the process.
This takes that you do remember to do this before you start making routes in Active Route, but apart from that, it works. I just tried.
I don't know what happens if you then save the route, disable the included waypoints and recall the route, though. Have to test that later.Anders

Re: Using Waypoints to create routes
Hi Phil, Anders,
Yes, I've looked at WayQue and it does seem to offer a workaround. What with the mapset turn on bug and this, I could end with quite a complex procedure for changing in and out of aviation mode.
On my previous (Garmin) GPS I ended up with a huge number of aviation user waypoints - edges of controlled airspace, turning points that keep you away from towns, etc - that are not on the map.
There are also "official" waypoints known as Visual Reporting Points that are on the aviation maps. But they don't seem to be in the iQue 3600a, so that's going to generate a lot more user entries.
Can the Address list be put on the SD card instead of internal memory? Maybe the answer is a card for ground and a card for aviation.
