Lightbulb 1500, 2000mah, OK; Now how about a Better Backlight?

I am still pleased with my iQue purchase after 2 1/2 years, especially now with my new upgraded battery and larger memory card. But if the iQue still has a significant flaw it is the screen brightness, which easily washes out in the car on a sunny day. Is anyone here (Hint: Paul ) up to the challenge of experimenting with replacing the original equipment backlight with a more powerful one? Now that is another upgrade I would gladly pay for.

I'm not sure if it's the screen brightness or the screen type that makes the screen washout in direct sunlight. I could machine Garmin Hoods, but I don't think there much of a demand. Or is there?

How much do you want to pay?
The iQue 3600a will give you exactly that, a better display and a backlight, which at half throttle is about as the backlight in 3600.
2.5 times the memory and all the aviation-related functions is a bonus, for twice the cost or so. Oh yeah, you get the flight cradle as well.

What is the chance of substituting leds for the battery killing back light in Betty?

The backlight in Betty is made by 10 white LED's.

I did not know that the 3600a had a much brighter screen than the 3600, but it certainly makes sense that it should, if it is to be relied on for navigating a plane. But my desire for a brighter screen is not nearly so strong that I want to pay the price of a 3600a. The obvious question though is how does the 3600a screen & back light design differ from the 3600? If it is just a question of more or brighter LEDs, perhaps a fairly inexpensive modification to the 3600 is possible.

No, it's not that easy. It's another display all together, not just a brighter backlight.

Just find a way to substitute a few of those LED's with a couple of 5 watt luxeon LED's!

    P.S.
I have a flashlight with a 1 watt LED and it's almost too bright to look directly at it.

One would wonder though if the more powerfull LEDs would then reverse the benifit of the more powerfull battery. in other words, would the brighter screen leave you again with a unit with sucky battery life?

Probably, but I was just joking. I don't think they would fit, and if they did, they would proably melt the screen.
