    Default Betty Lost her Voice

I know this has been covered, but my search didn't come up with it. My iQue 3600, which I have passed on to my daughter, doesn't talk. I assume that the vpm files have been lost somehow. I have the device, but not the setup CD. Can I download what I need from the Garmin site? How do I get her to talk?

In your C(or whatever):/program files/palm directory, you should be able to find your user id folder similar to what you named the device. In this folder, you will find one called "Backup". In Backup, you should find a ton of files ending in .vpm.

Select all of these and click them, thus selecting them for your next hot sync. That should restore the voice files. I havent tried it, but it should work.

I don't have the problem yet, but I tried to find the .vpm files on my disk...none there. Did a c-drive search for *.vpm and found none. Did you intend to refer to the files named ####_vpm.PDB ?

Stairman, You said that you did not have the dvd so these are probably not on you hard drive. Send me you email addr and I will send you an attached zip file containing these vpm files. The file is too large to attach here.

Yes, sorry, thats them. There seems to be 119 of them - as far as I know each one is a different prompt.

Here are my adventures so far, with no noticeable results--
I did a hard reset, and erased everything on the card. Then I downloaded the newest EFIGS update from Garmin and installed. Installed version 7 maps to card (I hadn't really intended to give her my extra license, but I guess she is my daughter.) I tracked down .vpm files on my hard drive, and synced them to Betty. Soft reset.

    No Joy??

So does anyone have any ideas? I can have the girl do a hard reset and re-install everything from the original disk, then download the 5.1 r4 and install it. How does this differ from what I've already done?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Not wishing to insult anyone, but are you sure the speakers working ?? or even the volume is set correctly. It just seems that you have tried all the vpm files, so I thought I just mention it. If you have a Auto cradle, have you tested it in that. Will MP3 files play?

You need to install not only the vpm files, but also the index file, which is used to make sure in which order to play these files.

What is the "Title" or "Name" of the index file apersson850, is that the file named "vpm_phr_tbl_bin.PDB". Sorry to ask, just trying to help and clarify. When I've looked at my backup file in the Palm directory, this was the only one I could find which I thought might be the file you mentioned.

I'll have her try the vpm_tbl_... file and see if that does the trick.

Thanks for all the help. If this doesn't work, I'll be back.
