PDA France 1st look at the Loox
http://babelfish.altavista.com/urltr...ppc%26id%3D159
I wont claim to have found this, becuase I saw it here on the forums- I afraid I forgot who posted it. (Sorry)
Just wanted to say, they included loads of screen shots and they said they had a test unit: hence the pictures of the unit. They even said what a great screen it had, YET THEY NEGLECTED TO TAKE ANY PICTURES OF THE SCREEN! I dont know about anyone else, but thats what I want to see on the Loox, even more than it's XScale performance!--------------

I've summarised the main points at www.firstloox.org and added their VOB benchmarks to other XScale devices in a table.
Some things to note:
1) The unit they tested does not have the lastest ROM on it.
2) Other evidence points to this being a pre-production/beta unit (they suggest as much themselves).
Frustratingly they have done no other tests (that they mention) - this may be, of course, because they believe they don't have the finished version!
Still makes for a good read though!

Not sure I like the idea of 'a telescoping stylus'! I played with the packard bell PPC, that had one and it was terrible! I'd rather use a stanley knife on the screen that that thing. Having said that tho the pic on Duncan's site (The brocure) doesnt look that bad.. I guess we'll have to wait!

huh? where'd you find that telescope-stylus info?
Duncan: why do the frenchies get the loox before you do ? After all, you're firstloox, right?
you can't expect to reach the top without a little climbing

I think that they have a beta unit - probably on loan from the 'le PDA Shop' bearing in mind the thank you's they give.
Various presentations have been given on the Loox at which re-sellers and such have had a chance to handle/borrow the Loox etc.
I'm still waiting for my press unit - but there are only so many to go to a lot of people!
As for the stylus:
Le stylet est mont? sur ressort "? la iPAQ 38xx" et il est t?l?scopique. De cette mani?re il occupe peu de place dans son logement mais il est suffisamment grand pour une bonne prise en main. The stylus is placed on a spring "like the iPAQ 38xx" and it is telescopic. This way it occupies little place in its housing but it is sufficiently large for a good grip in the hand.

Man, that's a sweeeeet piccy at the top of the article. The Loox is SO gorgeous!
Falin, what was the deal on the Packard Bell stylus, why was it so terrible?

Well, the PB stylus was about 4cm long before you extended it, so every time u pop it out you'd have to extend it which took two hands- and it was real cheap feeling.
Perhaps FS has done it differently, maybe as you press it down to take it out it extends automatically and when you push it back in it telescopes down. Lets hope it's a good weight, the e570 stylus was also such a joke, felt like you were using a bendy straw on the screen

Well... since the idea of the Loox is to make a Pocket PC that can be used one handed for most operations - a stylus that needs two hands would be a bad idea. I doubt they will have done a Packard Bell type stylus...

I guess we'll have to wait until you get that test unit Duncan. When do you think we can expect a nice review with all the pictures?
p.s. Please take some of the screen against the old and new ipaq for comparison.--------------
