Apps for the Fossil...
Hey guys!
How about some suggestions for what apps would, in their CURRENT stage of development, be really good/useful on the Fossil Wrist PDA with Palm OS?
And, dividing your reply, also suggest some apps that are perfect for the Fossil, but should be updated/enhanced for the small screen and jog rocker thing.
As many people who know me can guess, I think HandyShopper would kick hella ass on the Fossil. I beamed it to the prototypes at the dev con, and it worked great. I forgot to try the large font setting, though, so I'm not sure if that would be sufficient or if an even larger font would be needed. The built in large-bold font is pretty big, so I'm thinking that would be sufficient. And, Chris can add the Fossil jog rocker API into HandyShopper pretty easily, I bet.
Anyway, that's me. So you others who think you might want to get a Fossil Wrist PDA, what app(s) would YOU first install, or pester the developer to enhance?

DateBk5?
I'm not sure if DateBk5 would run; but, it would be nice if it did.

It's not a matter of "will it run" or not. If an app can run on a Palm Zire, it can run on the Fossil. The Fossil watch is functionally equivalent to the Zire, but it has a backlight. ;-)
My question was, which apps would be ideally suited to a wrist-sized device like the Fossil? Which apps are already perfect for the watch, and which should be enhanced for it?
I'm sure DateBk5 will run great on it, though it might be pretty hard to do stuff with that app on such a small screen. Apps for the Fossil should have a "zoomed" UI for easy use on the small screen and/or functional with mainly the jog rocker on the side. HandyShopper is an example in that I think I can convince Chris Antos to add the Fossil jog rocker API to Handyshopper, but it's unlikely he'll want to blow up the UI to be more visible on the small screen. HandyShopper will be VERY useful with the jog rocker support.

Fossil Watch In Stores?
Has anyone seen the Fossil watch in stock at any store? I'd like to purchase it through a retail outlet rather than online. Thanks.

Subhunt? Hmmm Maybe.

As for retailers, I don't think they're actually available yet. They should be very soon, hopefully VERY soon, 'cus I'm really wanting one.

Abacus has released an SDK for the Wrist PDA so developers can write apps specifically for it.

Yes, that's been available for a few weeks now, actually. It's also available from Fossil's web site. Unfortunately, I've been told by a develeoper on the wristpda yahoo group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wristpda) that the SDK is sadly lacking, especially in specifics on how to make a custom watch face (he has a watch he'd like to work better on the Fossil) and other things.Originally posted by Ed

Though technically, Ed, your message is off topic. ;-)
I think I'll move most of my Fossil discussion to the yahoo group. I much prefer e-mail anyway. I encourage anyone else here who's interested in the Fossil/Abacus Palm OS watch to join the wristpda group, which is specifically for the Fossil/Abacus watch (or any other brand of watch running PalmOS).

i won't use yahoo groups. i signed up for one and suddenly a horrible amount of spam began arriving everyday on an account that had never had any before. i had to shut the account down and create a new one. web based discussion is much safer.

To each his own. I'll be in the Yahoo group more than I'll be here, so I wanted to let others know, in case they are not bothered by the scourge of spam that infects every e-mail address on the internet. ;-)
