What are you using to connect to your ISP with? Cradle and PPP? Cellular? BT to Cellular? BT to BT LAN on your home network with ICS??

What server settings are you using for Comcast's mail servers? The standard ones are mail.comcast.net (incoming) and smtp.comcast.net (outgoing). Both require authentication.

Are you syncing with Outlook or some other email program; or going with the direct connect?

I use the direct connect method; but I had to use the actual IP address (63.240.76.10) for the outgoing to make everything work properly. You should directly ping your servers to make sure that you have the actual IP address if you go this route.

I have been using the outgoing and ingoing like you suggested with using comcast. I use outlook express 6. I keep getting a message from outlook asking me about every outgoing piece of mail if I would like to send or not send. How do I turn that off? I want to sync and walk away not have to click send every time. How do I get use the get mail direct method?? I would love to just check mail and not have to sync everything. Is this possible with a cable or do you have to bluetooth or wifi for that ?That get mail now is where I am getting the error: timeout( ox1212). What does the subject /messages buttons do?

Outlook: Can't help you there, I don't use it.

Direct Mail method: Set up a new acct in VersaMail, chooses Direct POP connection to server and follow the prompts for name, etc.

Direct connections work via HotSync and BT. I use mine with the BT connection to the PC and phone. There are some cable solutions out there (MochaSoft makes one) that would allow this as well.

The Get Messages dialog determines whether VersaMail will download the Header only, or the whole message. It is set-up in VersaMail (Menu-Options-Preferences-General Tab) for each acct. I have mine set to ask every time. That way, it will Sync the entire message, but when I am on the road and using my cell phone it will ask--usually I only get the Headers then.

Error code: same one that I got for a while--did you enter the IP Address for the mail server, or use mail.comcast.net?

    HTH

ps. I misspoke in my first post--Comcast does not require APOP logons to the incoming mail server, only the outgoing.

when you say cable you mean for a cell phone to palm connection. I set up my first account using mail service other, protocol pop, do I need to check sychronize only account? Then I put in username and password. I finished up after that and hit the get mail icon with the handheld plugged in. It starts then saying sign on , then quites saying eror:timeout(ox1212) After hitting Ok to the error I get a message Unable to Establish a PPP Connection. I click ok to that and I don't get any where.

I am using the smtp.comcast.net and mail.comcast.net for ingoing and outgoing.

OK, that makes things a little clearer. My take is that you are trying to get VersaMail to logon via your HotSync cable, but without having to do a HotSync; right? Let's answer your questions, and that should clear things up (a bit).

Synchronise Only--this means that the acct will only get/send mail during a HotSync.

By cable I mean this--out of the box, the Palm does not support Versamail via the HotSync cradle/cable, as a stand alone app. You have to be performing a HotSync. Some apps exist (ex: MochaSoft PPP) that enable cable/cradle to PC connections w/o performing a HotSync. This allows things like VersaMail and Webpro to connect to the net via cable. BT also acts as a 'cable', but the ICS software on the PC/Router acts like the MochaSoft app. Get it?

If I'm reading your posts right, the reason that you are getting the time out error is that there is nothing to "help" your connection; you are just using the T|TE as it came, no 3rd party helpers.

Of course, this could all be wrong because I'm having to guess at what you are doing. Go back and look at echo4lima's post, and answer his question. Then answer my first post, and tell us how you are doing it. That will tell us what needs to be done to help.

Your right, I thought I could use my TE with Hotsync cable to send and recieve with out hotsyncing. I guess I can't without third party help.
If I can just get my send and recieve to work threw hotsync I will be happy.I am counting down the days to get back to a wifi pda again like my last TC. You don't have any problems with this kind of stuff it was all automatic.
I am using the out of box cable for hotsyncing . I need to setup 2.6 versamail to send and recieve my email. I don't want outlook to ask me every time I send an email if " I really want to send it ".
This should answer your questions I hope. I use outgoing mail.comcast.net and outgoing smtp.comcast.net.

Is there anything else you need ?Don't know if you need this but I run a laptop that runs wireless internet threw a router connected to my desktop computer that is then connected to my comcast cable.
Like I said before I had a TC and never had this problem with versamail is was a breezy using wifi.

If you set up a Windows RAS, you should be able to logon to the internet via your cradle, you should be able to send/recieve email, surf etc. I believe I used Softick's PPP to do this with my m515. Since I have upgraded to TT2, I added a BT dongle and never looked back. I used to have a USB cable extension so I could RAS with my upstairs PC and sit on couch and use my 515.
