Default e800bt and bt gps solution

Having done a search through the forum I am still trying to find a bluetooth gps solution that will work with the e800 bluetooth model. Ideally I want something that will work straight out of the box! I am not proficient enough to be able to hack registery settings etc to get one to work.

So, I would like to be able to order a gps bluetooth unit (not CF or SD) that will work first time. Also, suggestions for a VGA gps prog for the bt receiver would be greatly appreciated.

    regards and thanks!

    Hi Dougmack,

I connected via bt to my PC(using a usb dongle), there were no problems connecting either, and doing an ftp file transfer.

So I checked my bt phone, and again, very easy once I remembered my security passwords etc!!

I noticed with oziexplorerCE, when I set my magellan GPS (via USB-serial adapter), that the comport numbers for bluetooth are Com6 Com7 and Com8.

Just make sure whatever program you're using, that these are the comports you're trying to conect to!

    should be easy?? I think?

I have taken the plunge and bought:

Holux GPSlim 236 bluetooth gps unit,
Tomtom Navigator 5 (package including BT GPS unit.)

I chose this route (twin gps units) to give myself the best chance of getting it working. Besides, I will on-sell the surplus GPS unit so I will not be 'out-of-pocket'.

    Current setup : E800 BT, 2003FE with MyVGA/Undead. BT stack version 5.

I will post a reply on whether it all works or ends in tears.

As an aside, I called Tomtom support and after being on hold for 30 secs, got straight through to tech. Talked to a bloke who spoke English and not technobabble. Very helpful. Only issue was that they don't sell a TT5+ Australian map pack. Have to buy TT5+ W.Europe and also Aus maps. Bummer! With Aus maps costing 199 Euro (as compared to W Europe maps which cost much less), it's quite eye-watering. Then again, Aus is a big place. Size does matter?!

Yeah TT isn't very cheap. They basically all make use of the Navteq or TeleAtlas basic stuff. But you do have a right on support, and upgrades. Take a look HERE

I have a simple portable GPS an Alan map 500 of which the cards for only Europe cost 129 euro. But I only need the maps of the Netherlands which I can't buy seperatly.

I have a GlobalSat BT332 (i think its a 332) and all I had to do was pair it up. Right out of the box.

Here is the result: a qualified success.
Why is it qualified? Because I couldn't get TT5 to talk to the BT GPS. I purchased GPSgate ($30) and found that everything would then work. However, a point of advise - let gpsgate make the connection, in other words don't use any other gps prog to check the connection (gps viewer in the case of the Holux unit) as this ties up the port. So, TT5 on the E800BT model with Holux GPSlim 236 BT does work, but only via GPSgate. Maybe other people can get it working out of the box, but I'm not one of them!
Incidentally, I did download the upgrade to 5.21 but it kept locking up the PDA. BT stack was the thoshiba c version.
