    Default DataBackup Application

Can I upgrade to WM2003SE by:

    1) Backing up my system to SD using "DataBackup" (the built in backup app)
    2) Flashing the system with the new rom
    3) Restoring my old backup?

    Thanks, Michael

I tried that when I was still on SE, just to experiment. The machine wouldn't boot anymore and gave only a flashing orange light. So that's a big NO.

you will have to install all of your programs from scratch. making a backup only saves all of your old programs and application data, which won't translate. things install differently with the new os. the os is stored in a different place within the rom itself. the page on the german site that you got the se rom from has a copy of the old 2003 rom, which is good to know since you will most likely want to go back to it. it is the last item on the page. of course you will have to reinstall everything yet again, but you had to do that when you installed se anyways. se is, in my opinion, a major dissapointment. wait until the flaws are worked out and apps are made specifically for it until you install it for good. on the fly orientation switching is the only good feature that i have found so far. myvga, despite the soft resets, makes my device 1000 times more usable and versatile than this se crap does. sorry for the rant. i'm sure se will be what we all wish it was eventually. maybe that's why it hasn't been oficially released in the us yet.

I guess this is where I saw it....I mistakenly posted this information to another thread. Anyway, you can restore backed up PIM files. So you, in case anyone else doesn't have outlook installed either, don't need to sync with your PC before you upgrade. Of course, this only works with the PIM backup.

Well, at least I can use the backup I create before I try to go to SE to go back to the old rom. Then I don't have to reinstall everything again.
