Default Viking 512 MB CF for $89.99 after rebate

    and free shipping.

I thought I'd share this with the group. I've been looking for
another 512 mb CF card and just ordered this.

    Go to:
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...234526-5610232

I don't know what "palestinebook" has to do with the URL, but that is how I copied and pasted it here.

    Regards, allmeta4

PS: I have a Canon S40 and also use my collections of CF cards in my Toshiba e750 pocket PC and my NEXIIe mp3 player.
HP hx4700 with Lexar 32X 1GB SD and Sandisk Ultra II 1GB CF (or Hitachi 4GB HDCF) and HP BT folding keyboard.

That's a decent deal, a few months ago I purchased 6 256 MB CF cards from Dell for about $120, dont think my wife filled up any of them yet.
(/me is going to take away her digital camera.)

Now if someone can find us a nice deal on 512 or even 256 SD card it would be awesome!

Well, the best price online is Outpost.com where you can get Panasonic 512mb SD card for $185 + shipping. If you happen to live near a Fry's Electronics store, you can get it for $169 + tax for the same card... best deal on 512mb SD I've seen so far.

I picked up the 512MB CF Card from PQI from Fry's a few months back for $109.99 (and it still is if you go the store) and I've had no problems with it.

Interesting things to note about it is that it has a 3 year warranty and on the back of the actual card says that it is "Powered by Samsung Controller" and "Patent Guaranteed by Samsung."

    allmeta4,

Although I haven't had any problems myself, I'll pass on a warning...

I ordered a 256MB Viking CF card for my new Canon S400 just a couple weeks ago off Amazon. I didn't bother to read the reviews until after it had shipped (genius that I am...). As I read them, I started to second guess my purchase. There are MANY horror stories of Viking CF cards displaying errors and losing much if not all the data stored on them, permanently. A lot of the complaints are from various Canon owners.

Needless to say, I returned my card once I got it and ordered a Lexar 256MB (12X) card instead. Right now they have a $10 rebate on 256MB and $20 on 512MB. It comes out to about $50 or $100 each.

Just a warning - I would hate to lose half my pictures once filling a 512MB card while on vacation! (It's also another reason to get two 256MB cards instead)

Well, I wouldn't have ordered the Viking 512 mb CF if I had experienced problems with the one I already own. Having used the identical card (that I paid too much for) in my Canon S-40 and my NEXIIe MP3 player and in my e750 without any trouble, I felt safe in buying another at a great price.

    YMMV

There was one review that had concerned me more than others. This pertains to a 256MB Viking card, but you should check for the same issue on a 512MB card. Read the following: (off Amazon)

"I ordered this card after reading the review of it mentioned in the description. The card performed as advertised, so I ordered another one. The second one was MUCH slower than my old 4X Sandisk card. Upon examining the product code, I noticed that instead of 910TS256CF, the new one says 910SM256CF. A call to Viking confirmed my suspicion, the new cards use Samsung chips instead of Toshiba. The tech support guy admitted that the Samsung cards were MUCH slower. So, if you are buying this card for the advertised speed, forget it! I don't think there is a slower card on the market. I was only able to achieve about 50K in the write mode, only 1/3X!"

Just trying to help - I still hear that these cards can be much more unreliable than other brands, such as Lexar. I would suggest Sandisk, but if you are in the Toshiba forum, I'm guessing you have a Toshiba PPC and SanDisk doesn't guarantee support for Toshibas.

In my experience, I have never had a problem with Viking, Lexar, or Kingston brand CF cards.. The only brand I've ever had problems with was Sandisk and I sold that card pretty soon after I got it.

I'm still using the 256 MB Viking, and Kingston cards I bought a while ago, and never had a problem with either of them during regular use in my PDAs and digital cameras.
    You talkin' to me?
