New Redfly Software
Celio has released a new driver for the Redfly. This is supposed to add support to a number of new devices, including the HTC Touch HD, HTC Touch Viva, Asus P527, and the Pharos Traveller 117.
According to the changelog:
This build is primarily focused on adding support for the new phones listed in the Beta Phone table above. However, additional enhancements and bug fixes for a few other phones have been added. This build has not been regressed on all supported phones, so you should not upgrade to this build unless you are willing to accept the risk of using a development build. In general you should first backup everything on your phone, as in rare cases we have received reports that installing our beta drivers can cause the phone to become unresponsive and result in the need for a hard reset. You can get this update at:
* Modified the LCD backlight function to scale down an additional level for better low light reading, and allowed user to control the setting to the lowest level.
*Eliminated an occasional hang on disconnect that occurred on Touch Pro and Diamond phones.
*Fixed the connection issue with the Sprint Treo Pro.
*Discontinued the permanent font change made on Touch Pro and Diamond phones so that font on certain menus and dialogs will increase in size, but the phone font will go back to the larger default font size.
*Today settings change message is now sent directly to the Today window for the Omnia enabling faster switch time between plug-ins.
*Fixed an interaction problem with the JETCET print driver that caused printing to fail from many phones.

HTC Touch HD -- Still No Joy
The Touch HD has appeared on the list of devices supported by the beta, but I don't recommend that anyone who has this device install it.
It's true, the latest beta provides basic support for this smartphone, but nothing seems to have changed from earlier versions. This means that there are still plenty of problems.
The most notable of these is that using this app will remove the extra-large, finger-friendly font in dialog boxes, and the only way to get this back is to hard reset the Touch HD to its factory default then reinstall everything on the device.
In addition, LogMeIn still ignores the SPACE bar, making typing a waste of time when using this app.
A smaller problem is the enlarged, finger-friendly Start Menu that's part of TouchFLO looks like a mess. It works fine, though.
I'd really like to use my Redfly with my Touch HD, and I still do for some things, but there are enough drawbacks that it's more hassle than it should be.
