Is there a way of changing system icons for the PPC? Namely, the folder icons and such.

Is there any way to do this?

    thanks!

Ummmm possibly, what are you trying to do, are what do you want to do specifically? If you're lookin for a like desktop app, where you can customize the desktop items/shortcuts with whatever icons you want, check out startap at: http://www.thumbsupsoft.com

im talking about system icons such as when you look in FILE EXPLORER. changing those folder icons and other system icons (like word files or txt files or anything else).

    thanks!

I am by no means an expert, but I play with my registry quite alot and I think you can. It involves a registry hack, for instance I just changed the default word files (psw) icon to the ebook icon by making the following registry change

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/pswfile/DefaultIcon/

I changed the "Default" to \Windows\ebook.exe,0 from \Windows\pword.exe,-106

For it to take affect I had to perform a soft reset.

I looked through all the types of files, and they all seemed to reference exe files.

I would have no idea how to use this to create custom icons, unless you went to the trouble to create a null application that contained nothing but an icon. Hopefully this should point you in the right direction.

that's definetly a step in the right dir!

    thanks roro.

however, that doesn't quite cut the cheese.

BUT, i'm wondering, is there a way to copy a /windows file via activesync to your computer, edit it (with an icon-editor, since the icons are buried within, usually) and then copy it back over? simple trying to copy from /windows on a PPC doesn't work. i wonder if there's a PPC native icon editor that handles dll/exe's??

    anyone?

Now the only problem is finding out where in the registry are the settings for File folder icons?

    Anyone?

    Thanks!

    thanks very much!

i've found a nice little app called LaunchPad which lets you make an exe that just has an .ico in it (for PPC of course).

again, the only question now is, where can you set the icon pointers in the registry for system icons? ie, the folder icon -- where can you change it's DefaultIcon value @?

    thanks !

Yes, you can copy a file, edit icon inside the exe and copy it back. I do that all the time and it works perfectly.
