Poor IMAP support
I have recently started using a BB Pearl 9105 3G. The main reason for getting it was UMA which seems to work well for me (only Orange do UMA in the UK and the choice of phones was more or less limited to BB when I decided to try it out).
The one thing it doesn't do well is IMAP email, surprisingly for a device whose whole reason for existing seemed to be email. Maybe it works for corporate users with BES accounts. My company doesn't support BB and I am stuck with BIS. I pick up email from 2 accounts via IMAP. One is my corporate account, which I also use via outlook on my work PC. The other is my personal Tuffmail (thoroughly recommended by the way - rock solid with excellent spam filtering) a/c.
My main problems are:
1) Email not being marked as read on the BB when I read it in outlook .
2) Email deleted in Outlook is not deleted on the BB
For both these issues, it works the other way round. Reading on the BB marks it as read in Outlook. (they are acknowledged by BB as not being supported)
3) Email frequently is repeated. I'll have two copies of the same email 10 or 15 mins apart. One will eventually disappear but it's still irritating.
4) Most annoyingly, if I open an old email, or reply to one in Outlook, it appears on my BB marked as new and unread.
5) It doesn't support folders, so I can't access any of my filed emails - period!
If I were a device supplier with a reputation for email in the corporate world, I'd make sure my consumer product was at least half way decent.
There is a third party app (Logicmail) that looks promising but isn't integrated into the OS like the built in client. I'd willingly pay $20 or so for something that worked...

Re: Poor IMAP support
I didn't have a problem with mine back when I used one. I was also on BIS since it was my personal device. I linked it to my Yahoo account, my Outlook email via Bellsouth.net and had a Blackberry address, just for the heck of it.
This was through T-Mobile USA.
EDGE was the fastest data the BB8800 would support. I don't think T-Mobile had 3G then.
As I recall, you had to manually set your preferences as to whether things would be deleted on one when deleted on the other or not. I had it set to delete both from either the device or my desktop. It worked fine with both Yahoo and Outlook.

Re: Poor IMAP support
My experience, on personal email, not my work. It deletes it from the server, and or the device only, you have to set that preference. If you delete it from the email server, it does not delete it from the device. So, its one way deletion not two way unfortunately. This is not new, its been this way for years. As far as duplication, I have no clue, sounds like you need to review your settings.

Re: Poor IMAP support
Thanks for the responses...
I have been all through the settings - more than once. The main reason for duplication seems to be opening the message again in Outlook. Every time I do that, I get a new copy on the BB. This must be something to do with the way Exchange and the BB interact as it doesn't seem to be an issue with my tuffmail IMAP account.
The lack of two way sync is described in this KB article. That and the lack of folder support are really frustrating. I still think it reflects badly on BB when email is supposed to be "their thing".PDA history: Handspring Visor -> Treo 180 -> Tungsten T -> Palm TX + N810 -> N900 -> BB Pearl 3G + iPod Touch

Re: Poor IMAP support
Most duplication issues are caused by what is called "looping." That is usually caused by trying to sync with two different sources. An example would be, Mobile Me and Google. Or, one exchange server, and another exchange server. The hard fast solution is to sync with only one. I sync my contacts with Mobille Me. I sync my calendars with Google. No duplicates. Now, if in my example I synced my contacts with Mobile me AND google, I would have duplicates in my contacts every time it synced.
Moral of this story, at the risk of repeating myself, only sync a specific category with one cloud service. You can sync contacts with one and calendars with another, but don't try to sync either one with more than one cloud source.nuvi 765t, iPhone 5, Still waiting on BB10 phones to review. Re: Poor IMAP support
I only ever sync with Outlook on my work PC. It's definitely an issue with the way it interacts with Outlook/Exchange
