GPS on the 8800 and 8320
I was basically told by Tmo rep, no the 8320 does not have GPS, nor does the 8800.
I was then told by a mod elsewhere, YES the 8800 does, read the list on Tmo site. I did, it listed it. However, the tmo rep, AND a review said it does not.
Can someone help clarify
I guess the main thing I need to know is what do I need to get it up and rolling on my 8320 like my friend has on here Envy. i.e. not just a receiver to be used in a car, but totally within the phone.
How is the 8320 different than the Dash where they said I needed a receiver. It seems to be different in NO way, yet the dash never listed GPS as one of its features like the 8320

Re: GPS on the 8800 and 8320
For instance, from Handango, where I was recommended to go, it says this will work with bluetooth and a receiver.
Now the curve has BT, but does it have the receiver built in?

The BlackBerry 8800 and the BlackBerry 8320 are very different devices. The 8320 does not have a built-in GPS receiver.
You can use a small external GPS receiver though, like this one:

Re: GPS on the 8800 and 8320
Sweet, Ed. Thanks
So they are different. The 8320, NO internal receiver, but the 8800 yes, but the tmo rep was right, they cannot get the service from them, no plan, etc....??
and the Curve has no more/no less than the dash. No receiver
Most importantly, I can get that keychain, in other words, one that I take with me and then it makes the curve just like my friends Envy. So for 119 + 129 that can be had and that includes a LIFETIME subscription.
I guess that program has the maps and I don't have to use BB Maps or Google maps But the only thing I am still not sure of if it will be vocal
thanks again ed

Re: GPS on the 8800 and 8320
You don't need a plan or subscription for GPS. It's maintained on the US military's dollar and made available free to everyone else as a public safety measure.
T-Mobile doesn't provide an over-the-air mapping service like Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T do, so I'd assume they simply don't care about the GPS receiver.

Re: GPS on the 8800 and 8320
That's just another option for over-the-air map delivery, not much different from Telenav or VZ Navigator. They just charge $120 up front for a "lifetime" license, rather than $15 a month the way others do.
Yes, at least to an extent. The principle is the sae--Google Maps delivers all the map data over the air the same way the others do, and it does support the internal GPS on the 8800, so I would assume it can be made to support an external GPS as well.or can I use Google Maps?
You need a program which supports voice navigation prompts. This would be a lot easier with another platform--Blackberry isn't known for its wide range of third-party apps. I'm afraid I'm not well versed in the options here--The only BB navigation app I'm aware of that gives voice directions is Telenav. How would I get the voice like Verizon?

Re: GPS on the 8800 and 8320
Give yourself credit. You know a lot more than most, and definitely a lot more than me. How btw do you quote part of a thread at a time. You must have to copy and paste each part as you need it?
So this is what I have. the 8320 has NO internal receiver. I definitely have to get one if I want to use Google Maps, IF google maps works with it, but we think so.
The program on fandango is 119 and that is a lifetime license that you said is for a lifetime, but there is not such thing as a license
And then that last program you mentioned, I googled, looks pretty kewl and that would require a monthly fee to them. Now that would also require an external receiver or wouldnt it?
thanks again. even if u have time to get back AGAIN, take your time for gods sake.
I appreciate any help I am confused with this I guess because I am so anxious to get one and I am still confused as hell with what level 1 is and how to add it. JohnC left me the last mesg saying u add them at the Tmo site and I saw it, but I am clueless LOL

Re: GPS on the 8800 and 8320
I press reply with quote, then cut and paste the close quote tag (looks like [ / QUOTE ], minus the spaces).
Google Maps definitely works on the 8800, and it's supposed to work on all the other Blackberries. The only question mark is getting it to work with an external Bluetooth GPS. It should, but I don't know for sure.So this is what I have. the 8320 has NO internal receiver. I definitely have to get one if I want to use Google Maps, IF google maps works with it, but we think so.
Not for GPS, but all that the GPS network does is let you find your own position. Maps are another story, and that's where the license comes in. There are free map tools like Google Maps, monthly paid ones like Telenav, and one-time fee ones like TomTom Navigator (which I don't think has a Blackberry version). The program on fandango is 119 and that is a lifetime license that you said is for a lifetime, but there is not such thing as a license
It would require a GPS receiver of some type, whether internal (BB 8800) or external (BB Curve, most others). And then that last program you mentioned, I googled, looks pretty kewl and that would require a monthly fee to them. Now that would also require an external receiver or wouldnt it?

Re: GPS on the 8800 and 8320
I can confirm that Google Maps work with the internal 8800 GPS.
Brain -> Casio -> Sharp -> Filofax -> Palm Pilot -> Palm Professional -> Palm IIIc -> iPAQ 4660 (oops) -> TT3 + T610 + NavMan -> TT5 + SE K700i + NavMan -> TT5 + 2Gb SD card + SE K810i + universal PDA thumb board + external mike + TomTom ONE + BlackBerry 8800
