Default Text Message Alert....Need to add a new ring

There's got to be a way to add another ring tone to the test message alert for the 6700. Under settings it gives me about 20 or so different options, b ut none of them are very loud like the phone ring. Is there a way to add another ring to that list?

If I understand your question right you want to add a new alert to use when you receive text messages. To do this you must have a sound that is saved as a wav file. You can put that sound on your storage card or you can explore your phone with active sync to put the file in the proper location.
To do it through storage card:
    1. Copy wav file from its location on your computer by right click---> copy.
Open storage card and right click ---> paste onto storage card.
    2. Put card back into phone. Use file explorer. Got to storage card and copy file. Go to windows folder and paste the file into the windows folder. When you go to your sounds the sound should now be in the drop down list.

The process is basically the same if you explore through My computer or active sync.

Thanks for the response. I cant find the folder in activesync where the sounds are stored. I used to be able to find the ring tones with the previous phone I had, but it was replaced and now there is a limited number of folders that I can browse. I cant find most of the system folders. I dont know what I did different with this new phone.
I have added different sounds, but they only show up for the ring tones, not the text message alerts. I dont know why they have to be different???

I work for a hospital and want to ditch the pager, but I HAVE to hear when I get an emergency page if it is sent through my phone.

What type phone do you use? If yours is simular to mine you just paste the wav file right into the windows folder. My phone is a touch screen so I just open windows folder on the phone. Scroll all the way to the bottom and hold down stylus on screen and click paste. Mine has to be in the windows folder. My friend has a phone where he goes to sounds folder and paste the file there to get message alert sounds. My phone is an xv6700, I don't know what he has but it a T-mobile phone.

Ga, you are the man/woman I had the ring as a .wma file, not a wav file. Also I could not find the winidows folder through activesync. Now I can ditch the pager!!!
    Thank you very much

I also want to change my text notification sound.

I used to be able to FIND the windows folder in my PPC 6700 using Activesync ---> Explore--->My Device--->Windows. Now I cannot even find the folder... Any ideas why it disappeared?

I CAN get to windows using the device itself, just not from my computer.

UPDATE: Never mind, I can just cut and paste the file from within the device.
