In my initial overview for the Dell Axim I took a screen shot of the 300 MHz and 32 MB settings the device was displaying. The device we had purchased here at bargainPDA.com was a 400 MHz device, not 300 MHz as the system reflected.

After posting the overview and the problem with this Dell contacted us to try and figure out why the wrong device had shipped. But after giving the product numbers off the back it didn't make sense to the Systems Engineers at Dell as to why the device I had was 300 MHz. Turns out it isn't. After performing a hard reset the device now indicates itself as being a 400 MHz device with 64 MB of RAM. Weird but true. We're waiting on a bit more explanation for Dell as to why this would happen, how many Axims might be affected and what their statement is on it. Here's a snippet from an email exchange with Mitch at Dell and what their findings were so far:#

"I just wanted to follow up with you today on our findings so far. It appears there may be a condition in which the CPU speed is incorrectly set when the system is being initialized. So far a line audit has produced zero failures.

There is, however, an initialization condition that could potentially make unit set up as a lower speed and appear to be a slower processor. It's a somewhat rare occurrence but there is a scenario we've discovered that could cause the issue."
