I was just perusing the specs and comparing the Axim x5 400, and the iPAQ h5450. It seemed to me that the only difference is that the h5450 has both bluetooth and wifi built into the machine, but that the Axim has an additional CF type II slot that you could put wifi/bluetooth in. The only other differences I could divine were the h5450 has very cool biometric security (fingerprint) yet the Axim costs half as much.
So, my questions to you all are:
Is the fingerprint analysis hardware dependent?
(my assumption is that it must be)
What other difference have you guys seen?
(I know the iPAQs have a slightly better screen)
What are your opinions about the relative values?
and lastly, why don't the clie's with the camera do retinal scans?!? ;)

the iPaq is a lotta money at $700, I'd think hard before buying it over a $300 Dell. The built in wireless and biometrics would be the features over the Dell and yes the biometric capability would be hardware specific.

The Clie's probably will do retinal scans soon enough...kind of scary if you ask me.
The screen of the h5450 is probably the biggest difference, the iPAQ screens are just so good. Our 5450 is due today, so Andrew can follow-up with other subtle differences.

Can someone tell me why we are comparing the Ipaq 5450 to a Pocket PC approximately half its price? Don't get me wrong, the Dell is a very good PDA for the price but it doesnt have many of the features a serious Pocket PC buyer would want. The dell does have both SD/MMC and CF type II expansion capabilities but, no I/O function on the SD. The Ipaq has a Transreflective display(meaning Backlit)while the Dell has a Reflective or sidelit display. When these compared side by side, the Transreflective LCD is crystal clear while the Reflective display is darker near the top of the screen and not very clear. The Ipaq has an integrated wireless 802.11b and bluetooth cards which are a $200 expansion for the Dell. The Ipaq has a feature I thought was especially cool. Of course Im talkin about the Biometric finger print security scanner. Only you can access your Pocket PC?? What a brilliant idea. I think a Better PDA comparison should be IPAQ 5450 vs Toshiba e740

Also, adding Bluetooth and WiFi to the Axim would be only $120 total.

Both are transflective.
ipaq screen: larger and brighter (full brightness on axim is almost equal to one-third on ipaq)
