Can anyone confirm whether or not the Axim has the MediaQ chip? I've heard rumors that it does, but nothing concrete...

So I guess no one knows for sure? I ask this because of what I read on PocketGamer.org (www.pocketgamer.org) - here's the relevant info (this still can be found on their homepage):
Thanks also to snowiboy for writing in with the comment that "I own the iPAQ H5450 and somebody told me the Axim has the same graphics chip as the H5450. The MediaQ1100? The H5450 is suffering from slower video playback (FPS) VS the iPAQ 3900 series as well. I think we have wait for MediaQ to release driver source to developers to resolve issue?"

Notice it has similar graphics benchmarks to the Toshiba e310 and the E-200, which have the chip. I haven't seen benchmarks to compare for the iPAQ H5450 or the NEC MobilePro, which also have it.
One solution would be to pop the sucker open and see if it's on the board. Who is brave enough to do it?

...don't look at me... ;)
OK. Let's suppose for a moment that it have it. Is it good or bad?.

Judging from the benchmarks/user complaints, probably bad until software companies start optimizing their products for specific use with the chip.

Well, it can be good, but as of right now it's probably bad. Software needs to be optimized to take advantage of the chip - when it is, it'll be faster than it would be without the chip. If the program isn't optimized for the chip, it'll probably be slower than without the chip. :(
I'm sure someone else can explain it more thoroughly (this is very similar to the e740 and its ATI Imageon chip).

I saw a MediaQ chip in mine. I didn't think it was important at the time and so I didn't take note of any part or version numbers. Also the cpu was not visible. It must be on the inside against the lcd.

Thanks for the confirmation. I guess now that so many units have this chip we'll start seeing some optimization for it...maybe...or perhaps I'm just getting my hopes up? ;)

That's what I thought... it's nice that it has the chip, but...
PocketTV is the only thing I've heard anybody working on MediaQ optimization for. It already has xscale and ATi Imageon (well, for the purchase version), and I read somewhere they were working on MediaQ also.
The MediaQ isn't as powerful as the ATi Imageon, but it's better to have that, IMO, since more PocketPCs have it, and especially since the most popular brand, the HP iPAQ, has it... that means it might get worked on. :D

This is what I'm hoping for. ;)
