View Full Version : CF speed inquiry

I hate to ask such a silly question but I also hate to waste money, so here goes:

Should I buy a 4x or a 12x CF card (256MB) or just a "regular" card that doesn't show a speed rating?

Will the speed be noticable on the Axim or is it really only noticable on a Digital Camera or such device?

*when I get to be a know-it-all, I'll help out others too, I promise*

Faster CF cards allow faster write-to speed, not reading. So as far as feeling faster in the device, it applies most in big file dumps, like backups to CF. Some formatting cluster sizes can make a difference though. I have found that 512byte clusters at FAT32 is just too slow, even if it saves a bit of storage space when storing a few thousand very small files. So I have settled on FAT16 and 2KB clusters (using Storage Tools) for all-purpose use, and FAT32/32KB clusters for a partition (created using Partition Magic) on a 'normal speed' SanDisk CF card for backups. Works great. Hope this helps.
