okay, im getting really worried reading the DELL forums. a lot of people are complaining about the activesync and how they cannot connect, or if they try it will say that the device is not found etc etc etc.

has anyone encountered this problem? i have yet to receive my axim, and quite frankly its making me nervous reading about all of this stuff.

Still waiting for my own Axim 5, but my friend got it and it was connected Ok to the AS. We even used terminal Client :)

  I have no trouble connecting the Axim thru ActiveSync on my production PC. Also, on a test PC which did not have a previous install of ActiveSync, I installed ActiveSync 3.6 and then when I okaced the Axim in the cradle and the new USB device was found and Windows XP asked for the manufacturer's floppy or CD, I inserted the CD that came with the Axim. Windows located the drivers and installed them and everything works.

Hmmmm....it took me two hours to get it to sync, and to this day, I have no idea how I got it to work. But it works perfectly fine now. :D

un-install ActiveSync and Avantgo from your system.
Install Outlook 2000 from included cd
Then without your Axim connected install ActiveSync.
It will then prompt you to hook up you device THEN hoook up Axim.
Then Pray

Active sync on my old Ipaq was terrible and buggy for a long time. It was a well reported problem on the Ipaq forums. I've had no problem with Xp but a ton with Win 2000 pro, yet only with the Ipaq. The Axim has been perfect so far with both.

What I found worked in the past was to disconnect all other USB devices and not use a hub for the handheld. Make sure the Axim USB connection, as well as ActiveSync, is completely uninstalled from the PC. Then reinstall the device following the directions from Dell, with no other USB devices connected.

I have also noticed each new version of ActiveSync has been slightly more stable. So I try to watch for updates.

This has fixed all problems for me in the past. I think it might be conflicting with the other USB devices somehow. It is as if there is a USB hierarchy and a handheld using Active sync needs to be first.

Good Luck.

I've had the same problem three times with my dell.

I would put it in the cradle (or connect via IR) and the green dial would start spinning, then it would start looking for changes and then it would go gray, say "Synchronization error" and stay disconected.

The first time I was at work so I spent about 20 minutes troubleshooting it then did a hard reset. Problem solved. I was running AS3.6, replaced it with 3.5, no difference. Tried a few other things. No effect.

Second time I removed the last added program (MS Arcade pack) and resynced. Problem solved.

Third time I removed the last added programs and still had the problem. So I ran a PSTScan on my PSTs and did a Detect and Repair in my Inbox and moved all my email that was currently in my Inbox to PST (in case there was a message in my inbox that it didn't like) and that fixed the problem.

I'd just say that I've been using Pocket PCs going back to a Jornada 540 on Win 98, 2000 Pro, and XP, and AStink has always been fussy.

Most of the time it would work fine, but sometimes I'd have to remove and recradle, power off and on the PDA, and once in a blue moon even reboot the PC.

In addition, using a USB hub seems to ascerbate the problems.

the "microsoft.public.pocketpc" group is loaded with messages about AStink.

just pointing out that in fairness, it is not a Dell-only issue.

Not once in 2.5 years did I have activesync problems with my Casio. Probably more good luck than anything..

Not only is it a pocet pc problem, I've had problems with Palms sync software. It's not a perfect science. My Ipaq 3630 was by far the worst..... Still no major problems with the Axim.

I have noticed that I need to remove my Axim from the cradle when I reboot or it will cause problems somtimes. With the Ipaq I could never reboot with the device in the cradle.
