Default Card Export II or Card Reader?

I am using the trials of both these apps and just wondered what people here at Brighthand thought about them. Which do you use if any and which do you like better? Pros and Cons? I know right off the bat Card Reader is the faster of the two. But is it better? I like the UI of Card Export II.

    Hello Spidubic

I used CardExport II for many years, but some time ago switched to CardReader. Main reason was the infamous "USB host failure" error that plagues (plagued?) CEII. Although there is an easy fix for this error, it's a major annoynce to have it appear just when you want a quick transfer. That, and the faster speed of CardReader convinced me to switch.

Also, CardReader has recently introduced a very useful feature, which enables FTP service via BT for your palm. Essentially, you can export the card via BT, so you can transfer files this way. Quite similar to what Softick BlueFiles does.

The UI is always at the bottom of my priorities. Better to have better functions than a pretty interface.

I echo Raspy's thoughts. Card Reader is the way to go. Card Export II is nice when it works, but it could fail on you at any time. It's done so to me 3x. I ditched it after that.

Ah. I was unaware of the USB host failure problem. Thanks for the info. I have just recently returned to Palm after years with PocketPC so a lot of catching up to do. I was leaning towards Card Reader but now I will definitely go that route.

Don't forget about PFB. It's free, and it has worked well for me.

Just want to note I have used Card Export II for 3 years and have never had any problem with it ever (and I use it pretty heavily). However, at the time there was no Card Reader, which I believe is less expensive and I might have considered it for that reason. Not trying to change your mind, just noting that not everyone has problems with CE II.

The only issue I currently have with CEII is that with the most recent release the screen saver option causes my screen to flash off and on. It's no big deal -- just annoying. The screen is supposed to turn off while connected.

Another supporting note here in favor of CardExport II.
Never failed me once on TE, T3 and now 680

Can not comment on Card Reader since I have never used that application.

I've used both programs and I think Card Reader is far far superior. I've had the problems raspabalsa mentioned with the USB connection in CardExportII, which is what finally made me investigate the alternative. I've had no such problems with Card Reader.

Card Reader is cheaper, which of course is a virtue. One really nice feature is that it also enables you to "work in the background" (use Palm for other things while USB connection is active). In addition, you can set it to go off when there is no activity, which is nice if you wanted to make a big transfer of files and leave the Palm unattended (or even run overnight).

The only advantage of CEII over Card Reader is that it looks nicer, if eyecandy is important to you.

I've tried Card Export on my two Treo 650s and it never failed to work. Never heard about the other tho.
I dare you to check my blog.
