Can't view media
I'm travelling at the moment, and using my HTC Desire to access the internet and email. One small annoyance is that whenever there's a video in the web page I get a message that I can't view it because I don't have the latest version of the player. When I 'click' on the link to update to the latest version, I'm taken to the Adobe Flashplayer page in the Marketplace, but it reports that I already have the latest version installed.
I'm using Firefox as my browser, otherwise everything is stock. Any idea of what the issue might be, please? Could it be shortage of memory, rather than the reported wrong version?

Re: Can't view media
Just guessing, but I'd try uninstalling and then re-installing the Flashplayer. Good luck!

Re: Can't view media
Thanks Rick, that was my first thought. No problem uninstalling and reinstalling, but still can't view the media. I get a still picture, but no video -- having said that, I can't be sure which ones are meant to be video and which are just stills anyway.

Have you tried a different browser?

Google (ASUS) Nexus 7, wifi+data (AT&T), Android 4.2.2, stock and un-rooted (so far
)
LG Nexus 4: AT&T (Gophone), Android 4.4.2, stock and unrooted-- and probably staying that way.

Re: Can't view media
if you can provide a specific site, I'd be happy to try and help. alternately, this post (#398) contains both a picture (the dachsund) and a video (mom cat and kitten)

Re: Can't view media
I agree that temporarily, it might make sense to get something like Dolphin HD and then sort out the Firefox issues.

Re: Can't view media
Thanks for the replies. I've just realised that I can view movies posted on Facebook okay -- the site that always gives me the problem is BBC News - Home, which is essential reading for a Brit travelling overseas!
I ditched Firefox on my PC a while back (some compatability issue, can't remember exactly what), so seems like a new browser might be in order on my phone too. Maybe I'll give Chrome a try.
Edit: Chrome doesn't seem to be available for Android. Anyway, I've tried the stock Andrid Internet browser again, and it plays the BBC videos without any problem. So I'm ditching Firefox -- seems to me they're losing the plot.Last edited by abenn; 07-18-2012 at 12:32 AM.

Re: Can't view media
I have no idea what's going on with FF. I think the asylum was taken over by the inmates. I realized recently that they did away with the 'organize bookmarks' and replaced it with 'show all bookmarks.' Now in what world does that mean organize your bookmarks? They've also ditched a bunch of useful functions. Crazy. I don't think I'd bother using their mobile version unless there was great word of mouth about it.
