Swype Beta 8 (Nuance version) for Android
Wow, I just tested out Swype Beta 8 on my Nexus One (I wanted to try it first as a new install, not over the pre-installed version on my SGP). This is the first version released since Nuance (The dragon voice recognition folks) took it over. Holy cow, this is fantastic (this is a first first look-- I haven't been using it long).
Not only is the swyping even smoother, but it has the best voice to text translation engines I've ever used (duh, it's Dragon). You don't have to talk that slow and you don't to pause that often.
However, that's not all, they threw in a Grafitti-like handwriting mode where you can just write letters with your finger on a black pad at the bottom of the screen. The character recognition is quite good, and the word and next word prediction is remarkable.
I'll let you know if I run into any problems, but so far I am completely impressed. It looks like the beta is open for anyone to register, but I don't now for sure since I just used my old account.
This is well worth taking a look at. And my Nexus One shows that older technology handles it just fine.

Re: Swype Beta 8 (Nuance version) for Android
Just installed on my SGP5 and wanted to note that I happy to report that it doesn't install itself over the pre-installed version but rather installs itself as an additional, separately selectable input method. So, if Swype came with your Android, pre-installed, this won't disrupt anything.
