I suspect this whole thing would be solved if Android let you log out of your account and then log back in, but it actually doesn't. You can only delete the account or turn it off.

I don't expect much from this, but have you tried turning off the account, including all background syncing, and then re-engaged it? Also (I'm sure you have), have you rebooted (using a root app since the SGP can't do a battery pull )?

Luckily, I didn't have to resort to meaner tactics: my Player is back on my web Play Store, right where it belongs, as if nothing had happened.

As best I can determine, the solution was to reinstall Talkback's updates (or maybe update any Google app, keep reading for some conjectures). On this thread I discussed the possibility to delete Talkback from my GP5, but only went as far as deleing its data and updates (Talkback is bundled with the GP5, so can't be uninstalled by normal means). My GP5 had disappeared before I did this, and since that happened I installed and updated several apps using the in-device store, but I didn't update any Google app. Even after all these installs and updates my GP5 would still refuse to appear on the Play Store on my PC. But just a few minutes ago I decided to update TalkBack again (just to try the text-to-speech synthesizer), so I updated from my device's play store. Then I opened to web store to check a different app, and voila! my GP5 is again listed along my Mini.

I'm guessing that my GP5 got unhooked when I deleted Google Services Framework's data (see the first post in this thread), and did not get hooked again until I updated one of Google's own apps. Updating 3rd-party app did not hook my device again. I'm further guessing that much more goes behind the scenes when installing a Google app than when installing a 3rd-party app. Finally, I'm guessing that it may not be a good idea to delete a Google app if unsure of its relationship with the OS and other Google apps. I'll add a note in the Eyes-Free thread linking to this post so others may consider this if planning to delete Talkback or other Google apps.

Very interesting. I know I have deleted Google apps from my Nexus One, but that is running CM7 so it mat not have the same effect it does on our SGPs with stock Android, even though rooted. I never did uninstall Talkback since it doesn't nag me for updates and I wouldn't have even known about it if you hadn't told me.

Nice to arrive at a solution even if we don't know all the specifics of why it worked. Which sometimes seems to be the "Google Way."

Yeah, probably the CM7 cookers cleaned up stuff, made things less dependent on the Big G. But the thing is, deleting the app did not make my device disappear. That is, I'm guessing that deleting "normal" google apps (talkback, maybe also maps, gmail, etc) do not make a device disappear from the web store. Deleting the Framework thingy is what tossed my SGP5 off the grid.

Ain't that the sad truth! What annoys me is that I followed a procedure written by google (deleting framework data) to solve a store bug, and that is what started the problem, one for which there was no answer published on their help center.
