Re: tiny budget VZW Android models
I have now, thanks, cool site. But I didn't see any models up my ally.
Edit: I'm going to go ahead and buy a new pearl flip. Even if GV doesn't work, there are some handy calling-card-esque dialers such as jig used with winmo that might do the trick, like blacada, and still let me get back to my flip phone way of life. I'm actually feeling pretty good about this. Convergence, be gone.Last edited by Mi An; 03-24-2012 at 01:11 PM.

Re: tiny budget VZW Android models
Shockingly, the pearl flip I ordered Saturday is here. I wasn't expecting it till wednesday. It's no razr2 (it's light, flimsy-feeling), but I'm still excited. Especially by all the buttons. The trends these days are to do away with specialized buttons and rely on the touch screen to offer what you need in context, but even on a device with a generous touchscreen, I'd just as soon have plenty of buttons. I've got two assignable convenience buttons that are my favorite, one assigned to make radio toggling faster, plus a dedicated enter key, speakerphone, mute, menu back etc etc. Not sure if I even want to use the keyboard on this, we'll see.
I've deconverged from one very niche device made in 2009 with an obsolete OS to two very niche devices made in 2009 with two different obsolete OSs. If I duct-taped them together, they still wouldn't have enough processing power to compete with a modern budget smartphone. What's worse, I kinda like that that's what suits me.
I haven't activated flipper yet, or figured out if GV will work, but I'm not stressing about it. I'm pretty sure blacada will do the trick if GV won't. Who knows, it might even work better for me. I'm considering activating flipper on a second line and leaving Syd activated, as a ready backup. Since I use GV, the number isn't an issue, except to the extent that new prepaid numbers frequently mean an initial rush of wrong numbers.

If it works, I'll need you to send me a check to help subsidize my high-end smartphone.

Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for the comedy stylings of the one and only jig!

Re: tiny budget VZW Android models
Tsk. Tsk. This is obviously the rantings of someone trying, in their own way, to deal with the trauma of abandonment as Jig and HC jumped off the Xandroid ship. No touch screen. No dual core. And buttons! And he says he likes it. I mean, was there ever greater evidence of a break with reality.

If ever there was a cry for help...

The pain is real, and deep indeed, but I do have buttons, lots of buttons! And they help a little.

Re: tiny budget VZW Android models
I like the idea of duct taping them together: cracken-droid!

Seriously, the TP2 is a very nice device and deconverging does make a lot of sense.
EDIT: Rereading, that kind of sounds patronizing.
I intended to show respect.

Re: tiny budget VZW Android models
It sounds like a fearsome beast indeed. Eventually I'll hunt down a release the craken lol to christen the thread with.
And I read no patronization into the other thing. I expected someone to point out that I have another thread where I long for even greater convergence, taking over the tablet and netbook categories too, but I'm actually regressing here.I, for one, welcome our feline overlords.
