Default Mobile web pages reduced content

When I view web pages using my Android phone -- usually via WiFi -- I quite often get a page that's specially formatted for phones, and which has reduced content compared with what I see on my PC. This seems to be especially true of newspapers and similar media pages.

If I go for an Android tablet (e.g. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1), will I be able to access the "full" internet pages?

Use a browser like Dolphin HD that has a desktop agent. Even on your phone, you'll get full page view.

Thanks jigwashere. I've downloaded and installed Dolphin HD, set it for desktop view, and it's looking good with one of the newspapers I regularly read. I don't really need it on my phone, but at least it's confirmed that I'll be able to view things on a tablet (if I get one) just like my PC.

Let me point out that reading is one thing, using on-page functionality can be quite something else. I'm specifically thinking of Gmail, and attempting to use the normal desktop rich-text view to post a reply (in Dolphin HD, stock Droid X running Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread). In my experience, it just doesn't work; I'm unable to put the cursor in the text-entry part to add text. Using the default Gmail 'mobile view' (while in the browsers Desktop mode) works but doesn't allow one to use bold/underline/italics or canned responses.

I don't know if the same would apply to a tablet, maybe one of our tablet users with a Gmail account can answer that question (fwiw, that was the primary reason I r turned the 1st generation iPad I got for Christmas 2010; I need my Gmail )

RA, have you considered using an email client for your gmail? My gmail account isn't my primary account, so I rarely use it (and never to send email). I use 'Enhanced Email' from the market.

Wow. $10. I assume you must use the enterprise/exchange features.

My email needs are lighter than some folks (no enterprise stuff on my personal phone). If you need a full-featured, powerful, community supported, multiple inbox email client, K-9 is excellent and free.

I use the included client that Enhanced Email is built from (at least, it is on my phone; don't know if it is a feature of Android or is something from Verizon; its called Email ). I also have Enhanced Email but it lacks the bells&whistles that Email has (possible thats my configuration), I got it (EE) from Getjar, iirc.

Ah. I don't do Amazon Market. K9 is just fine. I don't use anything Exchange on my personal phone. Never tried the email app that comes with Android. Used to use the Gmail app when I was mostly using Gmail. Now I am using my own email server on my domain while I continue to use Gmail for commercial web purposes.

I don't use the exchange functions: I'm an IMAP guy. I simply picked up Enhanced Email because it was free. It does have a few minor features over the stock Email, though. For example, it has pinch to zoom when viewing a message, full email search (including msg body), etc. As I recall, it also does a better job formatting emailed articles I send from Read It Later.
