Palm to Android....Successfully!
I am a long time Palm user and with the slow demise of Palm, have been looking at other OS's for a long time. I made the leap to Android and had been quite concerned that it would not be up to the standard. While I am finding some lacks, there are also some real positives. My biggest concern was software! However, I have been finding some good substitutes:
- In place of DateBook6, I got DateBook! Well, sort of - it is a port of it by the same company and is called Pimlical. Still learning it, but it looks to be an excellent port. On top of that, it facilitated the transfer of my appointments with step by step instructions.
- In place of TealDoc, Moon+. This is a great, full featured ereader. I tried Aldiko, which was ok, but not any where close to TealDoc. Moon+ has all the customisations of TealDoc and more.
My next task will be finding suitable replacements for Contacts, ShadowPlan and Passwords Plus...

Datebk was my standard as well. I made the move to Business Calendar (though I do like the Android Pimlical port).
For Contacts, I rely on Google sync.
For passwords, there are a few good ones: Splash ID (though a lot of folks say their Android port is buggy); you also have SPB and Ascendo Datavault. Ascendo has a desktop companion, and you also have the option of using SD card or Dropbox.
SPB does Dropbox sync as well.

For passwords, I like KeePassDroid, and KeepassX on my PC. If you're using Windows you can use KeePass. The droid version can use either database. If you can export your passwords to a .csv file, KeePass claims to be able to import that. I haven't used Passwords Plus in so long that I've forgotten just about everything I ever knew about it.

Re: Palm to Android....Successfully!
I, too, have recently made that move... (Palm TX died, reverted to Z72, it died, currently using an Archos 43IT - TX-sized tablet with no phone)
First thing was Graffiti Pro - I have a resistive screen still, and much prefer Graffiti with a stylus to typing with one of my fat fingers...
For PIM data (Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, Notes) I'm using Local Sync - which syncs Outlook and device over WiFi (also USB, but I haven't tried that)
I got Docs to Go on the Amazon App giveaway a few days ago - I haven't really played with it on the A43, but I was satisfied with it on the Palm...
For Passwords, I replaced TurboPasswords on desktop and Palm with KeePass on both - syncing them manually over USB rather than through Dropbox...
For Shopping, I replaced HandyShopper with ToMarket...
Replaced AutoBuddy with Mileage
Replaced DayNotes with Memoires
Replaced OliveTree BibleReader with OliveTree BibleReader <G>
Also using NoteEverything Pro (for some of the HandyShopper stuff other than shopping, as well as general notes not kept in Outlook)
After a couple of months, I'm still not 100% as comfortable as I was with Palm, but I'm getting there... And looking forward to new possibilities...

For shopping, I'm using Our Groceries. It's customizable, and syncs with your PC, so you can make lists on the PC and they show up on the phone. I've tried a number of shopping programs, and this is the one I've been using for awhile. There are dozens available, and I think it's mostly just a matter of which you like better for whatever reason.
Mileage is pretty good. Again, there are lots of these apps available, but this one is easy to use and imports data from other programs.
I have both QuickOffice Pro and Docs2Go, and really don't have a big preference so far. I don't do a lot of document editing on my phone, but I do use it now and then for showing powerpoint presentations on a TV. It's easier to use my phone than a laptop, and the images show up sharper. The cable to connect cost me a total of just over $5, and the shipping portion of that was over half the total. Having TV out is very convenient.
I also have Pimlical installed, but I use Jorte calendar much more often. It has a cleaner interface and does all I need. My calendar needs are not extensive, I just need repeating appointments and sync with Google. Both do that well.
I have Graffiti installed, but I don't use it often. SwiftKeyX keyboard works better for me. YMMV.Regards,
Stan

Re: Palm to Android....Successfully!
There is an ereader version for Android. Not in market, has to be sideloaded. Not the smoothest piece of software, but works fine and lets you read all your DRM ereader books without conversion.
Download from here:

Google (ASUS) Nexus 7, wifi+data (AT&T), Android 4.2.2, stock and un-rooted (so far
)
LG Nexus 4: AT&T (Gophone), Android 4.4.2, stock and unrooted-- and probably staying that way.

Re: Palm to Android....Successfully!
Just curious why ereader specifically? Is it the pdb files?
Edit: Nevermind, I see the DRM comment above.Last edited by Magellan; 12-08-2011 at 10:27 AM.

Looks like it. Haven't been able to get it to work yet, though. It has other formats too but I think this was originally the Palm OS reader.
