The easiest way to do this is to replace the standard software with CyanogenMod 7. This is basically an OS upgrade for the Nook, allowing it to act like a real Android tablet, rather than a limited one. It also activates one or two "hidden" features in the Nook, like Bluetooth.

My wife did this with her NC when she got it months ago; opened up a whole new world of capabilities.

She chose to go the route of doing it through the SD card instead of hard rooting the device.

For the most part it has been fairly stable; occasionally a lock up.

Although the NC lacks a camera and mic, which rules out some apps, she is quite content with the device.

Works well rooted. Wife loves it. Have had two boot loops, but is fairly easy to re-root.
