    Default App Inventor retired, open-sourced

Google Retires Android App Inventor, Open-Sources the Code

I admit I haven't used it yet, but I'm sad all the same. I very much enjoyed mortscript on winmo, which although it was a very different concept, still allowed someone without programming chops to do some customizations and workarounds. I've already used tasker to address an xdandroid bug, though that bug is now fixed. App inventor seemed like someday it would really open up dramatically more possibilities for niche users, and what's more, it's attractiveness in education makes it an impressive recruiting tool for android at large. First time I heard of google (other than as an engine powering other sites) was from an astronomy professor. First time a lot of other people heard of google was from me.

I'm glad Google open-sourced it, but that hardly guarantees it further development. Who would really take this over?

I have to admit, I intended to play around with this; but never found the time. I think it's sad too.

Wish something like this existed across platforms.
