Re: XDAndroid on HTC Touch Pro2
This is fun! I just installed Read It Later Pro and it looks great! WiFi tethering seems to work perfectly. I wish I could get Netflix and Feedly working. I also have the odd problem of dealing with Google Voice and my Sprint Pick 3 setup.
<Off Topic (it's all about me)>
In WinMo, I have an app installed called Magicall. Other than 7 or 8 numbers that I've asked it to ignore, Magicall intercepts all numbers I dial and instead dials my Google Voice mailbox. Once in my mailbox, it enters a code, then dials the original number. It's a very cool app (it's a paid app which I got free for doing a trial of Netflix, which....okay, it's cost me a lot
).
I've looked at a lot of Android apps to solve my particular GV situation, but so far I haven't had any luck. One option is to install Voice dialer from Google, figure out the virtual number Google assigns me, and add that to my Pick 3 list. The problem with that is the virtual number can change at any time, so I'd have to pay attention. Also, when I change my Pick 3 numbers, it only goes into effect at the beginning of a billing cycle.
Another option for me is to install an app that does the GV callback. That's not a terrible option, I suppose.
Ultimately, I may just have to give in and integrate my GV number with Sprint. It probably wouldn't be the end of the world. Some folks I call recently switched to Sprint, so I'd get free Sprint-to-Sprint calls. The majority of my calling would still be w/in the Pick 3 (and Pick 2) numbers I have. And, my calling patterns have changed in recent months so I'm calling less and less.

I downloaded and installed the Amazon app store apk, but don't see it in my app drawer. I know it's there -- I was able to use it to install a few things. What's going on?

You've probably already seen this, and I'm not clear it does what you need, but I thought I'd post, just in case.
I, for one, welcome our feline overlords.

Re: XDAndroid on HTC Touch Pro2
Jig, do you need Magicall because you can't get GV working on your TP2? Because I thought GV did that already.

Jig,
Care to elaborate the steps you took to get wifi tether working? What did you have on before, during, after? Did your device crash after turning off wifi tether?
Thanks bud!Current Device: Samsung Galaxy Note II - Rooted Stock ROM

Well let's see if I remember. I installed GB, did the 'Happy Dance of Joy,' installed a few apps, and then went to bed. At some point I saw your post so tried it and it worked. I gloated a bit, then tried turning it off. I'm not sure what happened after that. As I recall, turning off wifi wasn't so smooth, and but my whining son kind of distracted me. Sorry.

I'll set it up again later tonight and report back!

I haven't done a lot of testing, but to make a successful connection I do the same thing as on my stock TP2: after starting Wi-Fi tether, I go to a web site using the onboard browser. My TP2 w/XDANDROID froze when I tried to stop tethering.

Re: XDAndroid on HTC Touch Pro2
The quick answer is no, GV doesn't do what I need.
Pick 3 is a feature Sprint gave me which allows me to call any 3 phones in the US for free. My home, a friend, and my GV voicemail are the choices I made for Pick 3.
I can manually dial my GV number, enter my password, dial 2 to get an outside line to call you. Why do this? I don't want to use up my minutes when I call you (nothing personal
).
All that manual dialing too much work and too time consuming (when I call you, it's urgent). I use Magicall to do all that button pressing for me. I have a few numbers programmed into Magicall so they go through as dialed (for example, 911), but for all other outgoing calls it intercepts the number and dials my GV number instead. After dialing my GV number, Magicall pauses briefly, enters my password, keys 2 (for an outgoing line), and then enters the phone number of the party I'm trying to reach.
As you can see, this isn't actually a Google Voice problem and is nothing Google Voice can solve. It's not about call forwarding -- it's about relaying calls through a different number.
In summary:
My Sprint Phone calls Varjak = minutes charged to my account.
My Sprint Phone calls My Google Voicemail = free call.
Therefore, My Sprint Phone calls My Google Voicemail which calls Varjak = free call.
Magicall for WinMo automates the manual dialing and password entry. I need something like Magicall for Android.Last edited by jigwashere; 01-07-2012 at 01:07 PM.
