Outlining, Brainforest analog?
I'm still in the process of transitioning from Palm OS. Has anyone found a good replacement for the Brainforest Palm program in the Android universe? I've looked for outlining programs in the android mkt and not found much.
Thanks,
Jim

No, I haven't run across anything yet. I keep hoping Splash Notes might be ported, or Bansai, but neither developer seems to show much enthusiasm for Android.
If anyone finds anything, let us know.Hook's Stories

Re: Outlining, Brainforest analog?
Can't you do outlining in some of the office suite programs? I assume you're mostly interested in the formatting options (numbering, bullet points, indents, etc.)?

Re: Outlining, Brainforest analog?
I've tried using Docs to Go word processing program but it is nowhere near as user friendly as the Palm version and the outlining is pretty cumbersome.

Re: Outlining, Brainforest analog?
Yes, of course you can. However, as someone who uses bulletized lists as story, character, and scene index cards, it is so much easier when the software is optimized. Splash notes was one of my most used apps on my TX.
I disagree with Jim's characterization of Docs-To-o, especially version 3. It is far easier to use than the Palm version and does bulletized lists well enough. But you do have to excessively flip up menus just because Android (and I suspect this is true of handhelds in general) never thought to add a Tab key to their keyboards.
What I generally do is right now is Outline in Onenote on my laptop, then import to Evernote.Hook's Stories

Re: Outlining, Brainforest analog?
Perhaps one feature that adds weight to apps like BrainForest is that it can behave snappier than a mobile office productivity suite opening a given document. Most certainly, DTG is far more powerful, but of a more cumbersome behavior for fast input. And, I also miss the Tab key in mobile

I tried SplashNotes and was very pleased with the overall performance, but I eventually decided not to purchase. However, I do consider it a fair replacement for BrainForest, even though the latter attempts a more complete dynamics to the note-taking concept. An advantage with SplashNotes is that it has been offered in a number of platforms, so if the user eventually switches, there are chances that the new platform will support a SplashNotes installation and all the previous notes. In general terms, this is one personal reason for favoring several products by SplashData.Last edited by hal; 12-08-2010 at 08:42 PM.

I know I'm always banging this drum; but I use outlining on WordSmith, and it's quite good. And it does have tabs.
So Hook, are you looking for 'Final Draft' on a handheld? That would be nice.

Which platform?
I'm still new to Android - well, haven't even gotten one yet - but would one of the ToDo apps work? I'm pretty sure some of them have at least one tier, plus usually a catagory. Not much ... not enough?

Editing is something I do on a computer screen with a full keyboard and two pages on the screen at once. I would never depend on a 3.7" screen or even a 5" screen for anything but draft.
