Samsung Droid Fascinate Galaxy
I recently downloaded some to my HP laptop, followed all instructions to move it to my Droid and found them on the phone. Now the five items are jar or tar documents which I am having problems opening or getting to execute. I downloaded Andro Zip yet it did not seem to help. Was I on right path?
thanks for any help.

welcome to Brighthand, GabrielPruett
most often, people here who don't have anything constructive to say, don't. altho I expect my next migration will be to Android, I'm not there yet, still using Palm PDAs and a feature phone. have you tried the Android Forums?
Android Forums certainly not trying to steer you away from BH, but in the interest of solving your problem.....Good luck!
EDIT: have you tried, by chance, to expand the compressed files on the PC, before transferring to the phone? My useful BH links -- BH FAQS/repair options/digitizer discussions

Re: Samsung Droid Fascinate Galaxy
Most Android OS users, when installing apps, do so directly off the Web onto their phone, rather than trying to side-load them. Google really did not design this OS with side-loading in mind.
Is this an option with your apps in this case?

Re: Samsung Droid Fascinate Galaxy
I have an Android device but I am not clear what it is you have and what you are trying to do with it. If you want help, you are going to have to provide more detals:
You downloaded some *what* to your HP Laptop?
If you have Jar and tar files, I suspect they are not intended for Android, at least as is. Android does use Java, but usually does not have jar files running around that I've seen, though they might be packaged in .apk files.
What are these files you are moving to your SD card? What were the instructions you were following? What are you trying to do?Hook's Stories

Re: Samsung Droid Fascinate Galaxy
.jar files are Java files. These are for J2ME devices, not Android. Android files are .apk.
Ed, I sideload all the time. I got my Angry Birds off GetJar, and my first download of Twitter for Android was from Twitter.com, not the Market. Been running Tweetdeck beta which is only obtained from Tweetdeck.com. Recently running the Firefox Alpha, which is obtained only from Mozilla.com.I am @guamguy on Twitter.

Yeah, actually, if you don't have an AT&T ROM, android sideloads just fine. Just make sure you have the "Unknown sources" box checked under Application settings.
