When will they fix Graffiti for Android?
Am I the only one annoyed by the "Graffiti for Android" app showing it's predictive text bounding up and down underneath the entry area? Instead of just maintaining a fixed size, it bounces, changing size as it offers words - you'd think they'd fix that right away, as it's pretty damn annoying.
Yes it's free - but it bugs me no end.

Actually....no. It doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I never even noticed that it did that until you mentioned it.

Edit/P.S. Now that you have called my attention to it... it still doesn't bother me.

Re: When will they fix Graffiti for Android?
there's another thread that says its been recently upgraded to 2.0.x.y.z (or something like that); might be worth a try, Tim

Re: When will they fix Graffiti for Android?
2.0.4 yesterday. Doesn't change the predictive text. You can turn off the predicted text.
The HTC keyboard does the same thing with predictive text except it only pops up one row and then you can manually expand it to half a screen.
Grafitti shows 2 rows at a time, which is usually all you need so it is actually more efficient.
In both cases, when a word is selected, the prediction area disappears until you start a new word.Hook's Stories

Re: When will they fix Graffiti for Android?
I'm using the latest version. The problem for me is, the 2 predictive rows appear and disappeared, depending on if there's a suggestion or not. This is fine if there's enough space between the entry area the the predictive area. In a situation where there's constrained space, the predictive rows push the entry area up when they appear, and pop it back down when they disappear. What they should do is reserve 2 rows there for the predictive area, whether it has a suggestion or not (assuming predictive text is turned on), and not modify the size of the area during entry (or make that a setting, if they wanted). Having the entry area change size during my text entry is really annoying, since that's what I'm looking at to see what I've written so far.

Re: When will they fix Graffiti for Android?
Hook: Yes, that's exactly what's happening - the area I'm editing is pushed up and pulled back down, depending on if there are suggestions or not - it bounces up and down while I "type". So this doesn't happen to you?
I wonder if it's something to do with the applications where it happens, or just space-related. I will experiment.

Re: When will they fix Graffiti for Android?
Yes, it does move up and down, but I don't have trouble monitoring the field. It had almost sounded like you were saying where you were typing disappeared or was covered up.
Can you give me an a "constrained space" example where you see it as a problem-- maybe I just don't do the things that raise your case. As I say, I really don't even notice the text field is changing position until I actually am looking for it.Hook's Stories

Re: When will they fix Graffiti for Android?
Bingo! I got it.
You are using grafitti in landscape mode.
The problem is Android. I almost never type in landscape mode without an external keyboard. The way Android re-propostions the screen in landscape is horrendous. It basically fills the screen with the keyboard and leaves you with a very small typing window, especially in apps that don't let you adjust font size. Predictive text is nearly unusable in all keyboards in this orientation. I only type on-screen in portrait mode (luckily the screen is large enough to work fine this way). It's why i am hoping for a slider for my next android device.
I see no signs that Android is working on fixing this. I do believe it is a problem with the programming conventions with Android, not with any of the input programs.
Seriously, if you are going grafitti in landscape (and especially with Grafitti there is no reason to), turn off predictive text.
Sorry it took me so long to twig. It has been so long since I even tried on-screen entry in landscape, that I had acttually forgotten about it as an option.
EDIT: By the way, this is not unique to Android. I had the same problem on my Nokia. I'll have to check my wife's ipod Touch. I think it is the problem you get when you put a keyboard as wide as the screen on a display that is much wider than it is tall. The propotions don't work out and you are left with too little work space hight at the top. I ended up orienting to typing in portrait on screen because, when I am writing on my handheld) I like to see a couple of paragraphs at a time ansd using a small font in Word-To-go, I can do that.Last edited by Hook; 10-06-2010 at 02:21 PM.
