Default Graffiti for Android 2.0.0 update - what's it do?

    Hello all...

I see Access released a new version of Graffiti for Android. I haven't installed it yet, as comments seem a little negative (Graffiti now requires network access, is a lot bigger, etc.) and apparently there's no changelog for what modifications they made.

Has anybody updated? How is it different?

It has some bug fixes and and greatly expanded Help section, including the ability to stream help videos from Access.

    Google (ASUS) Nexus 7, wifi+data (AT&T), Android 4.2.2, stock and un-rooted (so far )
LG Nexus 4: AT&T (Gophone), Android 4.4.2, stock and unrooted-- and probably staying that way.

Have you noticed and performance hits or negative aspects to it?

I haven't tested it extensively, but so far performance is snappier, and the predictive text works much better.

You really have to take the user reviews in the market with a biiiiig grain of salt. If they don't include specifics in their complaints and many people don't repeat the specifics, I largely ignore them and look at the overall rating. Especially if I know the source of the app.

Yes it works much better now, I really love the predictive text and auto cap. I haven't tried to stream videos yet. Hook your 100% right on the user reviews, some people's children.

Yeah, I tend to try to filter the market reviews through the lens of "people want perfect things and they want them for free". Maybe they don't remember how software for devices used to cost Real Money(tm). :-)

The predictive text (and auto-cap) didn't even exist in the previous version, tho', did it?

Actually, I couldn't remember, but I think you are right.

Yes you're correct the first version only had plane vanilla Graffiti. With this version it's much faster than Swype for me and due to the years of practice I don't even have to look at the screen.

Well, I have to admit, I am amazed. My first Palm was a T2, which already had Graffiti 2. I hated graffiti mostly and bought a portable keyboard and poked at the rediculous Palm onscreen keyboard with a stylus. When I switched to a TX, MyKbd came along plus the better IR wireless keyboard.

Upshot, I never learned Graffiti. Now, using this just a short while, I am learning Grafitti, finding it easy and am starting to use it more than swype. I'm getting pretty fast with it, though I still have some to learn about more esoteric characters and functions.

Of course, having good word completion is really a bonus and speeds the learning curve, but I finaly get what a (warning, bad pun ahead) stroke of genius the original Graffiti writing system really was. I think this is going to become my most used input system. Turns out to be oddly perfect for finger input.

This is a bit off topic; but how cool would it be if someone implemented Graffiti for Apple's OS X so that it could be used with that new 'magic' touchpad they came out with? That would be such a great device for lighter browsing etc. and for 'remote control' of an Apple computer as media server.
